· You will need to know how to configure and administer Cisco Network Equipment. I also recommend a familiarity with Sun Systems.
· Familiarity with Windows Server & Linux
· An Infrastructure Engineer needs to be able to speak to the end user, Application owners and his business clients in a manner that is professional & not full of tech jargon and slang.
· Two things that helped me with the Infrastructure Engineer position is my knowledge of networking (Cisco Infrastructure) and my experience with cloud computing.

Based on my interviews with current people in the position the salaries were a bit less in the Charlotte, NC region.
