“Literature Versus Traffic”
Over 10,000 books thrown out by public libraries were recently given new life in a beautiful new lighting installation by Inhabitat favorites Luzinterruptus. Called “Literature Versus Traffic”, the installation spilled out into the streets of Melbourne during the Light in Winter festival, fusing discarded books with glowing LED lights. The river of glowing books invited passersby to leaf through the volumes that had been forsaken for the dump and take them home.

“Paleko Arch Studija and Plazma Architekturos Studija completed Rasu Namai, a cluster of woodland homes elevated atop four historic ammunition vaults. Located in Lithuania’s Pavilniai Regional Park north of Vilnius, the housing development comprises 18 contemporary homes. Clad in timber planks of varying textures and topped with steeply pitched roofs, the dwellings combine traditional vernacular influences with a contemporary aesthetic.”

Installed in partnership with the Public Art Fund and Forest City Ratner Companies, Spencer Finch‘s Lost Man Creek recreates a 790-acre section of Redwood National Park in the middle of Downtown Brooklyn’s bustling MetroTech Commons using 4,000 baby Dawn Redwood trees.

Solar-Powered Water Wheel is Cleaning Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Mr. Trash Wheel and Professor Trash Wheel, the latter of which was installed in December, are solar- and hydro-powered trash interceptors based in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, clearing debris before it enters the Chesapeake Bay.
