A Peculiar Position on Ability
A fine gentleman once said, that if you find yourself doing something and that thing doesn't seem to be working out, then it means that you ought to stop trying. However, herein lies a problem. Let's say that someone has been struggling at math for as long as they can remember. The gentleman would brush this person aside as being unable to ever become better. But if they actually do, he could argue that it was something they could've done all along. This is mildly infuriating as such a theory cannot be proven to be wrong.
The gentleman in question was my physics teacher and he made this statement a couple days before exams.
