I'm really interested in doing a game for a console system (PS4, Xbox One, etc.) because a lot of my gaming experience was on a console system as opposed to a phone or tablet or even a computer. I haven't done a lot of market research into a game for a console versus on a phone or tablet but at this beginning stage, that's what I'm leaning toward.
For the subject of the game, I'm thinking about doing a mix between Tomb Raider and Call of Duty. Both are incredibly successful brands and crazy popular, so there is something about them that works. I like strong female leads, like Lara Croft, because a lot more girls are playing games nowadays and it's empowering to act as a strong woman in a virtual world.
The plot would centre around a female lead who has someone or something taken from her by either the government or a warring country and she must go on a quest to recover the item/person. I also want the end of the game to be satisfactory for the player. There's an ongoing debate, from what I've read so far, about leaving the ending open or rewarding the player at the end. I'm a huge fan of rewards at the end. If I'm going to spend hours and hours of my life on a game, I get invested in the plot and want an ending. The worst games in my book are the ones I spent so long on, got to the end, and nothing was accomplished. Really boils my blood! I understand the want to extend the brand and leave the player wanting more, but at the same time, I'm not going to spend another $60 on a second game and risk not having closure again. So I know for sure that my game will have a solid ending. Good or bad.
Anyway, back to the plot. The female lead will go on a mission across the country and/or to exotic lands to find her item/person. Initially, I was thinking about a husband and wife duo, both military, and the husband gets kidnapped either overseas or from the home. She must then go find him, but stealthily, because the country/people who kidnapped her husband are easily offended and have nuclear weapons or something. Haven't fully fleshed out the idea yet...
I'm just really looking forward to another Lara Croft type character and a great plot to back her up and keep the fans invested. :)
