 professor  soren  fascinates  him  .  quiet  ,  serious  ,  a  mercenary  with  a  mysterious  past  --  they  could  almost  be  the  same  person  .  but  there's  an  anger  that  simmers  under  his  skin  that  byleth  lacks  .  (  though  ,  most  would  say  byleth  lacks  any  emotion  at  all  .  )  it  makes  him  want  to  know  more  ,  to  find  out  exactly  what  has  branded  a  permanent  furrow  between  the  other's  brows  .

 byleth  knocks  lightly  on  the  door  to  soren's  classroom  ,  not  wanting  to  startle  the  other  professor  .  "  busy  ??  "  he  asks  ,  soft  and  low  .  the  look  in  his  eyes  speaks  to  innocent  curiosity  and  he  keeps  his  shoulders  loose  and  relaxed  .  (  there's  something  about  soren  that  reminds  him  of  a  caged  dog  .  like  if  he  shows  hostility  ,  soren  may  snap  .  )

how  delightful  !  he’s  considering  your  request  !  given  that  he  doesn’t  seem  to  like  you  much  ,  it’s  somewhat  surprising  .  you  debate  mentioning  that  fact  to  him  ,  but  knowing  vanitas  he’ll  just  get  defensive  and  deny  you  the  pleasure  of  his  company  for  the  evening  .  so  you  smile  wide  and  deliver  your  simple  reason  ------

Barely sparing a moment to consider doing otherwise, Olberic complies with the request, turning himself and moving his hand so that the wound at his side is in view. It’s not too deep, thankfully, but he doubts almost being gored by an aurochs is the kind of wound that he can treat by himself.

“ It... well, it could have been worse. ” He says, dismissively, while also trying to hide the fact that every beat of his pulse makes the wound throb with more pain. Emphasis on trying, of course.

After a few moments, however, he has to move his hand back over the wound in question.

“ ... Loathe as I am to admit it, I might need to see someone about it. ”

Leaning against a tree, paying no mind to the muzzle that bumped his side once, twice, before Little Apple started to munch on grass close by; Wei Wuxian felt like death.

Which was oh so ironic, considering how very dead he had been until Mo Xuanyu called him back. He would worry his soul was being harmed, but all the cuts had vanished, the sensation of the ritual gone.

So why did he feel like his head wanted to split open, like his body might combust at any moment?

It took Wei Wuxian a few seconds to notice the sound of someone, the crack of twigs, the bushes that were moved through, and he lifted his head, straightening a bit, blinking to chase the sharp edges of pain enough to put a fake startled expression.

When his grey eyes landed on the person that emerged a few feet from him, his wide eyes, his startlement, the shock he barely managed to stop from showing in time, they were all genuine.

         It is not difficult for you to notice the difference in the way your young master is moving. He is much slower and less energetic, his stride less than what you are used to seeing from him. From there it is only a short moment until you notice his limp, and you do not hesitate to take action. 

            It is only a matter of a few swift movements before you have lifted the young master from the ground, holding him carefully in your arms. You shake your head slightly, causing your hair to shift so that it is no longer in your face.

           “... You should not walk on that, Young Master Wei. I will carry you instead, so that you do not injure yourself further.” You have no intention of budging on this arrangement, already taking several steps forward. With your strength, he is not heavy in the slightest.

such a grave statement    /    coming from the one sinbad adored as his pillar ,   the compass he had needed to get across the seven seas     :     the shaky hands and compromised expression left him flabber - gasted for a brief moment ,   before he grasps them within his own    /    a rough finger pulp gliding over the smaller hand in an attempt to ease ,   to comfort     :             “  …   i know it’s frustrating.  ”            ja’far was no covetable company when losing his composure ,   but they had seen enough of each other    /    jabbed at hearts with knives and words alike for sinbad to not be afraid anymore.         the scent of white lilies right outside his office window was carried inside ,   the breeze as gentle as his smile.        he had been munificent with their business partners     :     but his generosity knows limits too ,   especially towards people who could pay for it either way.

his hand strays ,   gently threading through his advisor’s hair as white as the snow in the land they had first met    /    yet he was happy to see something warmer swim in ja’far’s eyes as an eyebrow was raised at him.               “  we will figure out what to do ,  ja’far.      every contract has a loophole    —— — -    do you remember?  ”             it was one of the first lessons they had been taught by rurumu    :    first seen in action against their diplomatic feud with madaura in reim    /    a practise they had become well - versed in over the years.          and the sting lessens its intensity over time ,   even if he can see the stubborn tilt of ja’far’s head and sinbad’s hand is ushered away    /    the king throws his own head back in laughter ,   as free as he could possibly be while drowning out a flustered influx of complaints.
