October starts this Friday! Many of you will want to participate in Inktober. I actively participated in and completed Inktober for two years. I urge you to boycott participating in, using inktober hashtags, and anything else that would give the "creator" of Inktober more press.
Here are the reasons (and these are not new or uniquely mine):
1. The guy behind Inktober plagiarized an entire how-to drawing book focusing on inking techniques. This is easily found on Google.
2. The guy behind Inktober has actively worked on trademarking the name "Inktober" and sells art supplies that are "Inktober" branded. This was a tiny thing meant to motivate artists. Trademarking an activity makes it hard for other people to publicly share their work (i.e. it might be possible that publishing work and using the words "inktober" to describe the work become illegal).
Overall, the guy is looking for profit and doesn't seem interested in artist growth. Last year I did Drawlloween. This year, I'm going to use the above prompt to have a very witchy October inkfest. I'll be cross-posting from Instagram to here but won't be using the inktober tag.
Instead, I'll tag my art this year as "inkfest" and/or "witchtober" (whichever I remember).
