#fafnirinktober Day 19: • “Once night fell, I followed the bird to a small ornate tent. It was time to get some answers. Before I entered, I heard her call, “In! Come in at once. I sense something great weighs upon you.” The tent was lined with old trinkets and strange oddities, as if it were a forgotten pawn shop. She sat at the center, polishing a clear glass ball. • I hastily approached, “What are you doing here? Did you get captured too?” She raised a brow, “Captured? I’m the Ringmaster’s right hand woman.” She stopped polishing, “We know each other, don’t we?” • “Yes! I saved you only a few days ago, remember? When I accidentally froze the forest village? That was me!” I pulled off my clown hat, hoping to unveil my disguise. • She remained deaf to my pleas, “My friend, you are more lost than you think. Is that why you have come? I am the Oracle after all.” • Had I gone crazy? Or had she lost her memory? I paused. Leechwyrm had mentioned an Oracle... Then it hit me, “Leechwyrm! I saw the look in your eyes that day, you both shared a history. You knew him!” • The Oracle stroked her head feathers, “Leechwyrm? Leechwyrm…” She slowly stroked the glass orb. “Ah! You mean the great toad? He is not here. He is headed toward the Great Wizard Academy.” • I paled. He was going after the Wizard Council, or worse. I had to warn them! “Please, Oracle, I need to escape this circus. I need to find him!” • She took my hand in hers, and examined the palm. “It is true. Your future does not lie here. A greater calling beckons to you.” She slid a key from her sleeve and unlatched my shackles. “Do not treat this fate lightly. I foresee that your actions will greatly shape the future that is to come.” From the pile of oddities she recovered a large object and passed it to me. It was my lost wizard staff.
