1/11 // InkWip // Story of a pen Mario Aguirre lives and works as product designer, inventor, compost artist and craftsman in Venice, California. In 2006 he created and patented a unique bracelet that has a pen on it: InkWip. This stylish "tool" enables you to always have a pen handy.   Mario, tell us the story behind InkWip. Back in the times when I was a maths teacher, the students always said: "Hey Aguirre, can you sign this paper?" And the administration, too: "Aguirre, sign this, Aguirre sign that." You always need to sign some bullshit. I mean, is anybody ever going to read this shit? Oh my god… And the kids always took my pen off the desk. So they told me to sign stuff and I didn´t have a pen! "But you´re a teacher, you´re supposed to have a pen!" "Yeah, but you´re a student, you´re not supposed to take my pen!" You know. Fuck! (laughs) I mean…They're 9th graders, they wanna sway you. And as long as you're looking for a fucking pen, they can play around, fuck around. If they can through you off  even for 30 seconds - oh forget it! Then you got 35 crazy fucking 9th graders laughing. It was a serious problem - I know it doesn't seem like it but it was. How are you going to teach when you're looking for god damn pen, right? So I said to myself: "I gotta solve this problem, man, this is terrible …" And this is why I made it. I made a pen that was always on my wrist. And the kids hated it… When they became aware of my new pen on my wrist they said: "Hey Aguirre, where did you get this pen? Let me borrow it!" Hell no. Nooo way. If you take it off, you will never see it again. So I didn't, I never took it off. Thanks Mario for involving us in your arts and for teaching us how to make InkWips.
