Day 4: Inkwell
Today's theme is "inkwell," so I drew... Inkwell!!
Fun fact: Inkwell (and my url, “outfromtheinkwell") is derived from a series of shorts created by Max and Dave Fleischer called Out of The Inkwell. These shorts, for those who don't know, starred a character called Koko the clown, and were comprised of footage of Dave in a clown costume that was rotoscoped and animated by Max. With the introduction of the rotoscope technique, the brothers revolutionized the industry, and paved the way for new, creative applications of the technique.
I got to learn more about the Fleischer brothers this past year in my history of animation course and it was an absolute joy to finally hear all about their start and studio! Honoring them through my name is a reminder, for me, of the evolution of animation's history at large -- and an homage to a studio who fought to have their name heard in a time when people were reluctant to listen. ❤️
This picture pays homage to the piece of art by Max Fleischer that you can see on the right!
