just thought of this randomly and now im curious; is there a unique mini event for thursday? like wip wednesday, fanfic friday...

i've seen these writing based mini-events for nearly every day but definitely not thursday (to my memory)

So, according to this weekly event list I rb'd 8 months ago, Thursday is 'Thirsty Thursday' and all about relationships (not just romantic, but others too).

But this also designates Saturday as 'Sit-Down' rather than 'Storyteller', so... grain of salt.

I also feel like there used to be an 'Author Thursday'? (it might have been Tuesday instead...) That was about asking others their about their writing process, style, inspos, etc, because Storyteller Sat was more about what you were up to.

The thing to bear in mind is there are so many completing things, for example some people do 'Worldbuilding Wednesday' (when you ask specifically about stuff going on in someone's world) vs WIP Weds, that really you could just make up your own thing to do. For example, @tracle0 started doing 'Snippet Sunday' which is getting a lot of traction.

Another thing to bear in mind is that, as far as I have observed, the whole thing is in constant flux anyway 😅️ What was going on 6 months ago might not be a thing anymore, and nothing is 'official' anyway.

oho, one of my favorite characters!

How I feel about this character:  Honestly, I love Albert, one of my original favorite characters going back to when I was very young watching my mom play the game. He's just such a pleasant, down-to-earth guy for being, y'know, a king who got stuck with the throne at a young age. Absolutely wonderful character. Also he has my favorite additions of any of the characters.

All the people I ship romantically with this character:  I'll be honest, I don't really ship him with anyone (his age difference with Lavitz is a bit too large for my own comfort, even though they have decent chemistry). I know his relationship with Emille is like, canon and all, and I'm fine with it, but I kinda wish the writers had written it a little bit more...romantically. "Love at first sight" isn't really the best romance trope in my opinion.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:  Lavitz, obviously, but I also love that Albert gets into a few of Meru's shenanigans. Like yeah, Haschel is usually her partner in crime, but Albert was very much a part of the "let's listen in on Dart and Shana" post-St. Louvia, and before that he sought out Meru to "hang out with his friends" on the Queen Fury.

My unpopular opinion about this character:  Not about Albert's characterization per se, but a lot of online guides talk about needing to have Albert or Kongol as part of the permanent party to use as tanks and like, I get it, but it's also not true. You can use literally any combination of characters, and so long as you know how to use them you can not only beat the final boss, but the secret superboss as well (though I will admit, using Rose with either Meru or Shana/Miranda would be one hell of a challenge bc of how much Rose's stat growth drops late-game). Like, don't get me wrong, Albert is fantastic to use in battle, and once you patch his magic defense, he's basically unstoppable, but I have very much beat the game without using either him or Kongol before.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Aside from "please, for the love of love, give him a more believable and well-written romance arc", I really wish we got to see more of Lavitz and Albert's interactions in-game, since most of what we hear about their dynamic is secondhand, after Lavitz's death. Building up their relationship more would've made the scene at Mayfil so much more impactful.

my cross over ship: I have exactly one cross-over ship which is also more platonic than romantic, and it involves no characters from LoD. It's also a secret to everyone.

a headcanon fact: Not entirely headcanon, but more a theory that I have about the dragoon spirits and their chosen wielders, but I think an integral driving force of Albert's character is fear. This is partly because all the other wielders of the Jade Dragoon spirit are driven by fear, in some way or another, but the trait isn't as obvious with Albert until later in the game where he actually expresses some deeper anxiety over the world ending (as compared to a few of the other characters). Moreover though, I think a lot of Albert's "fear" actually centers around his kingdom and his own ability to lead it well, as his personal battle on the Moon is with his uncle, the dialogue of which directly addresses Albert's worry over his own weakness as a leader, as well as his realization that his strength comes from his bonds with his companions, and that he will be able to lead his country better than his father or uncle could. (Notably, everyone's personal battle on the Moon has them overcoming whatever integral negative "dragoon trait" is holding them back). I dunno if any of that makes sense, because any time I've tried to sit down and write out my theories for the dragoon spirits and the personalities/characterization of their wielders, I get my thoughts all mixed up, but...yeah.

NOT a headcanon fact, but a canon fact, according to fan translations from the Japanese guidebook, which has extensive notes on all the characters, Albert hates tomatoes. I think this is the funniest piece of trivia the writers could have added, bc it never comes up in the game, it's literally just an obscure fact hidden away in the Japanese guidebook. Absolutely excellent.

Oooh since this is for early Moiralock, I'll answer for both of them separately and then together! 🌟

Moira requires more of an emotional connection. She might consider the idea of a one-night-stand—she's horny! she's lonely! she wants to be touched and loved on the way she wants!—but ultimately, emotional intimacy and trust must come first. My girl loves romance! And when she arrives in Dunwall, she's so focused on keeping her head above water, on trying to find security, that she sees one-night-stands as more trouble than they're worth.

(Now in an AU setting, I could see her maybe being more willing to try, but ultimately she reaches the same conclusion; she'd rather sleep with someone closer to her emotionally than not.)

Farley likes one-night-stands/casual sex because it's just that: casual. He can hook up with someone, get off, and move on the next morning. It doesn't demand vulnerability to the degree of a long-standing emotional connection, which he finds relieving. That being said, as much as he struggles to admit this to himself, he does want that emotional connection and the vulnerability it asks of him, in part because there is security to be found there.

And honestly...I think Farley is a bit of a romantic too, lowkey. I think if he had the option—if the society he lived in were less rigidly patriarchal, among other things—he'd have wanted to settle with Joe.

And so, as a couple, Moira and Farley are more focused on forging their emotional connection first. Especially Moira; Farley represents a danger to her that she does not represent to him, and physical intimacy only comes when she's certain in how serious he is about her. Messing with other people isn't on the table during this stage...but after they marry? That's a different story 👀

I was wondering about that when I got the "inkysqueed followed you" notification bc I was like wait, I know inkysqueed, what happened?? No worries though, I accidentally blocked my friend one time entirely on accident and didn't notice for almost a full day, these things happen, keeps the experience here interesting.

I already answered this questions here, but it is the question that I have So Many Thoughts on, so I'm gonna go ahead and ramble for a bit longer! While I generally like fully fleshed out characters more than blank slates, there are exceptions, so here's a few of them and why I think they work.

The Dragonborn in Skyrim is both a customizable character and a blank-ish slate that the player is presumably supposed to project on to, but the limits of the dialogue system make full projection impossible. But I was actually fine with the Dragonborn bc of how Skyrim plays, like it felt like the character fit into the game pretty well, aside from some weird things like khajiit are not allowed in cities ever, except if the player is a khajiit then it's fine bc the devs couldn't lock the player out of cities for gameplay purposes, which makes a weird dissonance between game story and gameplay. Overall though I'm fine with how the Dragonborn handles as a blank-ish slate playable character, bc the character role doesn't feel like it needs to be anything specific so the large amount of customization doesn't create too much weirdness with the gameplay or story. I can't see Skyrim making more or less sense with a fixed personality original main character, like the main character role feels fluid enough that it just works.

I never technically got into the BioWare games, but I watched my brother play all of the Mass Effect trilogy, and I think the execution for Shepard works really well. Mostly this is due to BioWare's excellent, extremely in-depth, and detailed dialogue trees, which make it so that even though Shepard has sort of a fixed personality and character, the player controls exactly what that characterization is (more "noble" or "rebel" or whichever the exact names were, it's been over ten years since I watched the game), which makes each full playthough of the game unique. The player being allowed to customize Shepard's appearance and name are mostly just added benefits bc Shepard's first name and appearance/gender don't actually matter to the overarching story, so the customization doesn't feel weird the way it would for most fixed personality main characters. (I don't remember enough about Dragon Age to comment on their avatar system, but it seemed like it worked okay? Dunno if it would have been my cup of tea or not though).

I also feel like the Pokemon games have been doing the whole "blank slate" avatar thing pretty well for...basically ever, bc the type of story that is usually presented in Pokemon games wouldn't really benefit or work better with a fixed personality character. That the player can customize the player character a bit more in recent games just adds to the overall effectiveness of the avatar. So even though I don't play much Pokemon, hats off to whoever got the balancing of the playable protagonist for that series down to a science.

13. Any show/ book/ fandom/ etc you’ve been meaning to get into?

I really want to actually get into and learn the story/lore for Kingdom Hearts, even if it's considered a mess in terms of the theorycraft (although given how much I enjoy messy theorycraft, who knows, I'll probably love it). I just haven't set aside the time to actually, like, watch through some playthroughs or cutscene compilations.

I'm also considering doing a deep-dive into the story and lore stuff for Genshin Impact, oddly enough, if only bc several of my coworkers play it and talk about it at work and the story and characters actually sound like something I'd enjoy a lot. I don't plan to play it partly bc *vaguely gestures* gacha mechanics, but moreso because it looks like a huge time commitment and I just, do not have that time to commit.

For shows, I'm hoping to eventually finish Amphibia and Tokyo Mew Mew, and I keep telling several different people that I plan to watch Demon Slayer at some point, but I'm much slower to get to shows. There's actually an entire list of various shows I want to one day watch, but those three are top of the "ongoing or hopefully soon to be ongoing" list.

For books, I'm determined to actually try and finish the Lord of the Rings trilogy sometime this year, but I also have the rest of the complete works of Lovecraft, The King In Yellow, and Moby Dick sitting on my bookshelf.
