The same water that softens the rice, hardens the egg.
A candle flame is wonderful metaphor of truth. In lighting another candle flame, another one million candle flames, nothing of the first flame is lost.
Here we are in spring a beautiful time of great change, new life and lots of rain to wash away old and unnecessary energies. Let yourself be the river bed of your flowing life. All manor of things will flow through the waters above shaping you and carrying stuck stones and silt along the way but regardless of how the water of life shapes you you will remain the same river bed. Seat to the waters above that fertilise crops and flowers alike. It would be mad to focus on a single passing stone or drop of water as it will all flow to the sea. Take trip as a petal down to the course of your river only paying attention to the now, the reflections of the water, the beautiful sound of the current washing over stones and pebbles and all that passes by from source to sea to ocean
True love is not about happiness. It's about consciousness

Philosophy is a dance between Wisdom and Knowledge
Philosophy is a tool for removing the barriers we have built against the wisdom we already have. The knowledge we learn is pointless if we do not have the wisdom to apply it. For example you can have the knowledge that a tomato is a fruit but wisdom is knowing not to put a tomato in a fruit salad.
A healthy mind 'doesn't mind'
Statement: You are not aware of your ears unless they are unwell through tinnitus. When you have tinnitus the ears hear themselves, making it hard to hear anything else. A healthy ear doesn't hear itself. You can apply this to the mind. You are not aware of the mind unless it is unwell. A healthy mind doesn't mind itself. It is free to receive the present moment.
Question: Do you think there's maybe a self fulfilling cycle? Minding your mind because you're unwell, and you're unwell because you keep minding your mind.
Response: You are not the mind. The mind, when healthy, is a tool. Actively trying to stop the mind 'minding' is also the mind. This may be the cycle of which you speak, trying to stop doing something by doing it.
So In answer to your question, No, it is not you that minds the mind, the mind minds the mind. The problem would be Identifying yourself as the mind and therefore identifying yourself as the unwell state it is in. You are not the mind.
A good way to avoid Identifying yourself as the mind is to become completely aware of the present moment when you notice it happening. An unwell mind is often a result of living in the past or living for the future instead of being satisfied by the present. 'Those were the days' or 'Everything will be okay when I start my new job'. When we do this the beauty of the present moment slips away because we are preoccupied in what the mind believes was or will be. Try making an active decision to stay present, observe that any negativity is not present but of the mind. Of course you can still think of the past and the present, its practically necessary in some cases but do not dwell or stay there longer than you need to.
Another way the mind 'minds the mind' is by having wandering thoughts. Don't fight them with the mind, let them be but become aware of the present moment. You'll find it's very difficult for the mind to wander when you are truly enjoying what you are doing now.
Just as a photographer must remove their eye from the viewfinder to compose a shot. One must remove the I from the mind to find peace
