Why teams are awesome
It’s time to get going with this blog again! Since returning from India, I had been extremely busy to implement those changes in my life which I had dreamed up during my stay in India. I was spinning around myself for quite some months, driven by the urge to gain financial stability while working in a profession that is personally meaningful.
I got trapped in some old patterns and had to try out which way was the best until I landed on a path which already started to take form before I went abroad: a bunch of friends from D-School at Hasso Plattner Institut in Potsdam wanted to continue working together in the field of innovation. We all come from different disciplines, ranging from engineers, actors or business majors to language nerds like me. We continued to meet and do work together in workshops for clients we acquired through our network.
Today we are 20 co-founders of our innovation consultancy innoki. Yes! I actually co-founded a company! And I know for sure that this is the only reasonable path for me to take right now.
But! It was not easy - try to agree on a founding contract with 19 other people. Once you have achieved this, you will know you’ll be able to climb many a mountain together. Discussions can drag on a little longer in a company that has no internal CEO. We have developed a unique decision process for this as well as for other internal hurdles. We are united by our passion for innovation and the urge to contribute positively to society.
You probably have a crazy idea now and then, but immediately disclaim it, because you wonder with whom would you be able to pull it of? That’s where the power of our team is hidden. If I have an idea and I can convince others, they will put time into trying it out. We are extremely fast in trying out new concepts and if we fail, the costs are still quite low. I can work on my own projects, but if a client requires a team, I can easily put together a multidisciplinary bunch of people.
I think, a core factor for our playful work style, but also for our commitment to the group, is the fact that we are all at eye level with each other. Every co-founder gets out what s/he puts in - and we have no boss to tell us what’s good or bad. We find out by ourselves and that feels freaking awesome!
