"Why busty, why not average or smaller than average, @inominati?"
@inominati: (For Jiaoqiu 😊)
The enemy falls before you, whimpering, begging for his life. Fear seeps from his every pore, its pungent smell assaulting your nose - and you smile, all sharp long teeth, blood and bits of this coward's companion still stuck between them. This fool was doomed from the moment you set foot onto their ship, his survival never an option. You can't even applaud his courage to pick up a weapon and stand against you and your pack, for it lasted barely longer than his death will take. There's no need for a spectacle for he is the last of them, a quivering sniffling mess of a man, the last one standing, not through any skill of his but by pure coincidence. Once more you let him plead for his life before you slash his throat with a strike of your claws, painting the wall with the red inside his veins and breathing in the scent of fresh blood. This is what you were born to do - to kill, to dominate, to conquer. They will all fall before you and you will never know weakness again, only power and victory and survival. You look down at your hands and see them for what they are: massive weapons with long claws on each finger, dripping with the blood of your enemies. You look to the side and catch a glimpse of yourself in the window: your light hair drenched in red, your golden eyes glowing with the strength surging inside you, the smile on your lips that of a killer. An apex predator.
A sound wakes you, something loud and sudden, and you shoot up from the bed with a racing heart. It is dark around you - of course it is, it always is these days. The scent of blood lingers, or maybe you're imagining it. Whatever woke you is quiet now, but in your mind echoes a deep malicious laughter. You recognize the voice for it has haunted you since his bite near tore you in half, leaving you in pieces but also leaving something inside you, festering like an illness or a curse. Or a gift, the voice whispers. These aren't just nightmares, they are a vision into your future. You are changing and there is nothing you can do to stop it.
He sits, bolt upright in bed, the sheets a sweaty, tangled mess about his legs. He feels the twist of the fabric in his fingers where his hands have gripped it in a vice born of fear, the same fear that fuels the sickening race of his heart, the pounding of blood in his ears. Blood. Acid creeps up his throat at the visceral memory of his... dream? No, no, not a dream. He cannot even call it a nightmare, as much as he wishes to.
Although, it is a kind of nightmare, isn't it? The worst kind, too. A fate far worse than his eternal darkness, far worse than death itself. Why didn't you just kill me, he asks the voice inside his head, not for the first time. Why did you leave me alive?
He knows the answer, of course. He may have been left for dead, maybe that was even the plan, but Hoolay could have finished him easily with that final bite - and he didn't. Everything that happened during the wardance was planned, including his survival. It may not have been guaranteed, but if he did survive... Hoolay had left something behind to ensure he would be haunted forever, that his suffering wouldn't end with the trauma of all that transpired.
He tries to quell the panic as he frantically claws his way out of his tangled sheets, tries to steady himself as his feet touch the floor and he pushes himself up to a standing position. It is a battle he is still on the losing side of, the taste of bile on his tongue as he stumbles forward into the blind dark, hands outstretched to seek out something solid, something familiar. When his fingers touch the surface of the wall he clings to it for stability, puts one foot in front of the other in sluggish progress towards the only source of comfort he can trust in.
His kitchen.
It takes twice as long as it normally does - which is still twice as long as it used to, despite his progress - before he finds himself standing on cool tiles, hands frantically moving across cupboard doors and carefully marked etchings to find what he's looking for. He pretends not to notice how his hands shake as he reaches for ingredients, ignores the mess he makes as he throws things together, leaving a trail of chaos in his wake.
The tea burns his tongue as he throws it back, scalding hot - but the sting grounds him, drags him from his mind, from the darkness that has nothing to do with his loss of sight. The ginger soothes his roiling stomach, covers that vile taste in his mouth. You will not have this power over me, he bites back, I refuse to bend to you.
Yet once the tea is drunk, he reaches for a beverage with entirely different 'medicinal' benefits: a leftover bottle, no doubt one of the general's, tucked at the back of the cupboard where it has sat mostly untouched for months, perhaps even a year. Feixiao has probably forgotten it exists. He twists off the cap, brings the bottle to his lips, and drinks down heartily. The alcohol burns almost as much as the tea had and his throat closes up in complaint - he slams the bottle onto the counter, leaning heavily against it as he coughs and splutters, eyes watering.
This isn't the answer, Jiaoqiu. You know that.
It is a different voice this time - the voice of his old master, soft and gentle and soothing even as it chides him. It speaks true, of course. This isn't the answer. He knows that.
But flashes of his nightmare come back in sharp bursts - the cowering prey, the splatter of blood, the taste and feel of flesh between his teeth - and his only answer is to lift the bottle again in a vain attempt to drown the images from his memory. He doesn't want to think about how he could feel the split of flesh beneath his claws, doesn't want to think about the rich scent of blood or the taste of it on his tongue. He doesn't want to think about how he could smell the fear on that cowering, snivelling weakling-
"No." He snaps out, that single barked word accompanied by a terrible crash of shattering glass. His fingers close around air and it is only then that he realises he had thrown the bottle across the room, without even being aware he was doing it. Is this, too, a sign? Sudden bursts of violent behaviour? Am I already changing?
It is a cruel irony, is it not? He spent so many years seeking a cure for his general, to prevent the moon rage, to give her a life free of that burden - and now, here he stands, shivering and shaken, facing the exact same fate that once awaited her. Only this time, there is no way out for him. He cannot stop what is happening to him. There is no hope.
He wants to run, wants to hide, but when he takes that first step pain blooms within the sole of his foot and he registers the crunch of broken glass beneath him. He scents blood, and once more he is back there in that unknown space, standing over his prey, and he hungers.
He doesn't remember sliding to the floor, but he comes back to himself in a pathetic huddle on the ground, trapped by a sea of broken glass he no longer has the sight to deal with. His one place of comfort in the darkness is now a cage he cannot escape from. It would have been better if I had just died. Maybe that's the only cure for this affliction. Maybe-
I will not become a monster. It is a mantra he will repeat to himself, over and over, until someone finds him still curled up on his kitchen floor, surrounded by glass and blood. I will not become a monster.
“Caelus @inominati has insisted on spending the whole day with me. I feel rather honoured that such a.. busy Nameless would be so forward with me~”
(For Kyren!) The journey continued to be strenuous, dangers lurking in every shadow and true help in short supply. The quest of finding the lost queen drove Lucien forward, but what really kept him going was the knowledge that there was nothing for him to go back to, not really. He would never return to his father's court, he couldn't return to his former High Lord and the allies he'd made more recently tolerated him at best – and only as long as he proved useful to them. He longed for a safe haven, a place that actually welcomed him and wouldn't chew him up and spit him out again in a few decades time, but by now he'd nearly lost hope that such a place existed. Maybe there wasn't a home for everybody.
A sudden change in the air around him temporarily pulled him out of his self-pity. Invisible to the untrained eye but detectable by his mechanical one, the area in front of him was warded by magic; not highly powerful magic, but strong enough to block him from simply walking through. Unless he was mistaken, he was far from where the mortal queen was rumored to be, but this was the first instance of anything unusual he'd come across since he'd crossed the last court's border, so leaving it unexplored seemed careless.
Scanning the sparsely tree-covered expanse before him, he raised his hands to the ward and summoned the magic residing in his core. He'd expected it to require an attack of some kind, perhaps his flames to burn through, but the ward responded to the magic itself, briefly turning thinner where he'd touched it and allowing him to slip through. So far so good. Now behind him the ward shimmered like a silken veil, while before him the ground fell in a soft slope, leading through a cluster of trees down to a lake that glittered calmly in the afternoon sun. Thin clouds of mist hovered above its surface, adding a touch of mystery to the whole place.
Lucien felt a pull of something as he began his descent to the lake, a cautious hand on his bow, the air tingling with a magic that lingered above the area; probably the source of the ward, or at least the reason for its existence. It took nearly all the way down to the water for him to notice the odd silence that lay over the place. He could hear animals in the near distance, but they sounded strangely muted, as if every living thing here held its breath in the face of his intruding presence. Lucien looked around the lake's shore but aside from a few toads and a tuft of waterlilies moving in the gentle breeze nothing caught his attention. Lowering himself on one knee, he reached for the water's surface but halted just short of touching it. The lake pulsed with an energy not unlike the ward he'd encountered, magic with an ancient feel to it, not sinister but unfamiliar.
It had been a long time since Kyren had descended into these planes, often finding himself without true direction other then bringing a stop to droughts and a safe haven for those weary and down on their luck. The latter had happened more frequently the last few decades and while he didn't mind, putting the wards up had been a precaution, simply because he didn't fully trust the humans. They were both greedy and exploitative, and these waters had been created by him for a reason.
However, that is not why he's awakened now. No, there is activity just beyond the ward, alerting his senses as scaled body shifts and uncurls from itself, a huff through slit nostrils. It was a curious sensation, the way ever animal quieted down and the imugi twitched as magic presses to the ward, not destroying it but thinning it in a way that makes him want to strengthen it and then no one could get in. But, it makes him leave his den, thick, forked tongue peeking out to taste the air. Fae? Was he scenting that right ? When was the last time he'd run into any of them? Maybe in passing, a guest here and there. The thought nearly makes him snort, they were tricky creatures the lot of them but he isn't worried.
From serpent to mortal form does his form flicker as he takes them in from behind, their hand halted before water, the mist slowly thickening from Kyren's presence. Hands find themselves tucking into sleeves, a silent inhale then exhale. Kyren could tell the shift in the air had the stranger on edge, his form tense and gaze looking around, but the mist was now thick enough to obscure vision.
The silence had a heartbeat now, but Kyren didn't fill it, opting to watch a little more before moving forward, slow and sure until he's standing barely a breath away from his guest. ❝ ━ You smell of contradictions. Determined but defeated, longing, yearning but resolute that going back to what you left is no longer an option. ❞ His voice echoes in the fog and oh, the imugi is fascinated by this strangers range of emotions, how subtly they flicker across his face.
What does it say that a surge of protectiveness crawls through him, as if the imugi can give this one a seemingly, much needed break? What had he gone through that just the sound of a foreign voice had them so tightly wound, reaching for their bow as if in danger. There is no danger here. The fact that the wards hadn't attacked him said enough about who it had let in. And Kyren would do as he always did when the lake's presence summoned those it wanted to heal. Whether those are emotional or physical wounds meant little, but he was here because whatever journey fate had taken him through had finally decided to give him a break by bringing him Kyren's way.
❝ ━ I am not your foe. Loosen the grip on your weapon, there is no danger here. ❞ They don't believe it, he can see the tightening of the skin around his mouth and surprisingly, it cause a subtle smile to curl the corners of his mouth upward. ❝ ━ If the lake drew you to it, that means you are hurt somewhere, yes? Undress and get in, it will heal those wounds but do not be wary of the way it causes you to be drowsy, it's healing all aches. ❞ That flight or fight instinct would disappear immediately. And then Kyren would simply stick around to help afterwards.
Another inhale, a slow exhale and a pale hand appears, gently waving away the mist that had surrounded them until they're staring at one another. His expression softens, head tilting as gaze properly peruses the Fae, taking notes of the subtle things before meeting their gaze once more, ❝ ━ Please be at ease, you are safe here. I truly do mean you no harm. The wards do not just let anyone in, it reacted to your magic but also your plight. So come, enter the lake then after I shall fetch you sustenance...❞

😊 : a blog that always makes you smile
seeing @terrorsmade pop up on my dash or in my notifications always makes me smile. i know anna doesn't always have the time for tumblr that she used to, but i still love our ships and dynamics dearly and even just hearing from her in dms and chatting is enough to remind me how wonderful she is and how easy it is to pick back up both ooc and ic after any absence. she's one of those low energy, low maintenance friends that i genuinely treasure.
✨ : a blog whose energy makes the RPC brighter
based on my own experience and others in the hyv community, i have to name drop @apocryphis because ventium's energy on the dash absolutely makes the rpc a brighter place. i will always credit ventium for being one of the first people i plotted in depth with after getting into genshin, and two and a half years later we're still going strong with so many different dynamics that i adore and always look forward to writing, whether it's in crafting a reply or going feral in her dms. i envy her ability to keep on top of her drafts and inbox ( trust me ventium, compared to the rest of us you're doing amazing lmao ) and also still be so open and welcoming to new writing partners. she's a gem.
🌈 : a blog that always brings fun vibes
@hxkerwxlf ekr is such a joy to have on my dash and in my dms. whether they are baiting me and herta into some good ol' fashioned ic rivalry on the dash, or sending me pretty or cursed fanarts, or just chatting about hsr or genshin in general, they are one of those people that i always love seeing pop up in my notifications or light up my discord. such a fun presence in the community and i'm thrilled that they get their moment in the spotlight with wolfie's patch coming out this week.

Eastern (EST)!
❤️ — what are some of your best qualities?
Uhhh, I don't know. I'm pretty creative, easy to get along with, and I'm good at interacting with people I don't know, which is great for jobs.
🎮 — favorite video game(s)?
Probably a tie between Mass Effect 2 and Fatal Frame 2.
🖊 — any tattoos?
Yeah, and I have no idea how many I have. It's somewhere between 25-32. Every time I try to count them I get a different number, mostly because I forget about the ones I can't see easily. I think last count was 27? Could be more. Not sure.
🍦 — favorite ice cream flavor(s)?
I looooove mint chocolate chip and no one ever likes it, too. But I also really like this one that I've bought many times that's like vanilla with cherry pieces and chocolate chunks? It's really good.
📕 — favorite book/series?
Hmm. I don't really read much because my ADHD won't let me without significant difficulty. But I really liked Choke and a book I read in high school that I believe was called Define Normal? Tbh, I graduated high school a million years ago so I can't remember.
🎧 — do you write while listening to music/podcasts/videos/etc, or do you need total silence?
Usually there is something on the tv in the background (recently, it's been Mythbusters) but otherwise I really only listen to music when I feel like a certain song embodies what I'm writing about. So, I listen to songs that I think help me write smut better, for instance.
🎉 — what are some of your favorite things to do with your irl friends?
I like to just chill and watch a movie at home, go to stores and either shop or just window shop, get ice cream, go to paint n' sip events, etc. Nothing expensive or wild. I don't go to bars because why deal with that many people and pay too much for alcohol? Sounds terrible. I only go to gay bars because I feel safer there, and I like to watch drag shows there, too. I've taken friends to watch drag shows with me.
He chews the little lump of clay thoroughly in his palm, then forms it between his fingers into a ball. For now a simple shape will do, in fact, as much as he's itching to form something more meaningful, for once he's not trying to be creative about it, but testing a theory before doing the real thing. Coating the ball in a layer of chakra, he flicks it into the lake where it bounces on the surface twice, like a skipping rock, and then sinks.
Silence settles over the area, the birds in the surrounding trees chirping cheerfully. Then a pillar of water shoots into the sky as the entire lake is shaken by an underwater explosion, water splashing in all directions, including theirs. Deidara has just enough time to cover his face with his sleeve to save himself from getting soaking wet. When he lowers his arm he observes the destruction before him: a deep crater at the center of the lake, which is now mostly empty, its water dripping from every rock, leaf and bush in the area. All around them in the grass - and the crater - are dead fish, some of them intact, others in pieces, but all of them motionless. With a smug expression, Deidara turns to Kisame at his side.
"Hungry?"
The scenery was quiet. Kisame was sitting comfortably on a rock, looking out onto a small lake. Its surface lay flat like a mirror, no breeze today to disturb it. Kisame's excellent vision could detect the outline of fish swimming. He had taken off his sandals to dip his feet into the water. The feeling soothed him.
He was not alone here, but for once, it wasn't Itachi who was accompanying him. He was waiting here together with Deidara, while Itachi and Sasori was off carrying out a task the two of them were more suited for. Kisame couldn't help but feel like he was tasked with babysitting. Deidara was young. Well - at least Kisame was surprisingly good with youngsters. He'd been around Itachi since his partner had been just a teen when he had joined. Kisame had patience, which was something many in the Akatsuki sorely lacked.
For now, his "babysitting" was going fine. Deidara was entertaining himself with his clay. Kisame glanced over at him to see him chew it. He wondered what it tasted like. Most humans didn't enjoy eating dirt.
A lump of clay was tossed into the lake. It skipped a few times, leaving gentle ripples. Then it sank. A few seconds passed, and - THEN!
Kisame JUMPED from the rock when an explosion SHOT up from the lake. A huge splash of water erupted like a volcano. Water splashed everywhere, and a large wave reached Kisame on the rock he'd been sitting on. He didn't cover himself (since he didn't mind getting wet), and it left him soaked. His coat dripping.
The lake was ruined. There was an obvious crater in the centre ( so once the lake filled with water again, it would now be a lot deeper ). Floating around were dead fish. Some had been blown out of the water completely, now laying on the grass. Kisame looked over at Deidara, who just casually asked him: Hungry?
Kisame wanted to give him a lecture. He wanted to ask him if he had no respect for nature. He was just too stunned to speak right now. Kisame quickly reasoned with himself. The lake might look ruined now, but it would recover, and the newfound depth would be good for the wildlife. It was just that right now... The destruction made his heart sting.
At least there were plenty of fish here for him to eat.
❝ Was that really necessary? I'm more than capable of hunting my own food, and I can do it without such destruction. ❞ What would Itachi and Sasori's reaction be when they got back? Kisame's voice was calm, and he was not angry enough to lash out. But - he was very displeased with Deidara. He reminded himself that he was just a kid. A kid who thought destruction was "art". Kisame knew nothing about art, but he did know that nothing could beat the beauty of nature. Babysitting was... More challenging than he had thought.
