Ajax/Tartaglia being an actual Classical hero (AKA my brain is fried from Classics class):

Obviously named after Ajax the Greater from the Illiad and epic Greek poetry. We know it is the Greater rather than the Lesser because he had a younger brother called Teucer (who would use a bow behind his big brother’s shield). He was the strongest warrior after Achilles. He killed himself out of shame after going mad and trying to kill the other Greek soldiers because they didn’t give him Achilles’s armor.

Devoted warrior to a goddess and/or a goddess’s favorite (ex. Odysseus and Athena, Aeneas and Venus (also a goddess of love), Jason and Hera, Perseus and Athena)

Battle/blood crazy (ex. Achilles, Ajax the Great, Odysseus, Heracles)

Katabasis: a trip through the Underworld and coming back not quite the same (ex. Heracles, Odysseus, Aeneas, Orpheus)

Inversely, he summons a monster rather than killing one—though he does have a habit of wanting to fight ginormous or divine beings

Rural origins —> suddenly important (ex. Aeneas, Perseus, Oedipus, Romulus, Heracles)

Having a mentor figure (ex. Chiron and Achilles, Jason, Peleus, Asclepius)

Hubris or going above his mortal status (ex. Jason, Theseus, Bellerophon, Icarus)

Straightforward and does not have many schemes. If he does, they are made by other people (Archons) and he is simply carrying them out. (ex. almost all heros except Odysseus, who always has schemes but many are still co-created with gods)

Spears being the dominant weapon by the Greeks during the Illiad/Trojan War as bows were seen as the coward’s weapon

Pietas: duty to the gods, the family, and the nation (many of them but especially Aeneas)

Always on missions, never at home with his family (again, many of them but especially Odysseus and Achilles)

Hmm. Do you think Childe was sent to the army when Teucer was born? Or right when they realized the Mom was having another baby? They can’t have a monster around the baby.

You think Teucer is the replacement? Need another son—another adventurous and bubbly son but this time he’s gonna be good. Think they never left the little siblings out of the house, just in case another hole opens up. You think when their Mom and Dad woke up and discovered Teucer missing, they mourned because they lost another son—this one was gonna be different. This one was gonna be human. And when Teucer finally got back from Liyue they didn’t let him outside for weeks and watched him like a hawk, just in case another imposter-son came back. You think maybe they look at Teucer afterwards with a strange look in their eye, maybe when he asks about Big Brother or talks about the Ruin Guards, and think he’s a ticking time bomb. You think he pulled Tonia’s braids one time and the Mom freaked out and sent him to his room for hours until the Dad came home and he didn’t understand why it was so scary: little brothers tease their older sisters all the time. How many hushed whispers are in that house, in that town? You think Childe and Teucer are the only gingers in the family?
