Playing this quest made me wonder if part of the reason Kaeya was so eaten up by guilt on the night Crepus died was because he realized Crepus had been betrayed by Eroch who was his best childhood friend/“brother”.

Maybe that is why Kaeya told Diluc then. It was an attempt to show Diluc he would not play that role or repeat those same mistakes with them, but Diluc was too hurt to view it like that and his grief got the better of him. Instead of being reassured of their bond, all Diluc could see was the roles his father had fallen victim to. He could only see Eroch’s betrayal in Kaeya’s actions and his father’s dying face in his own

The fact Kaeya continued to push Diluc & showed he cares over the years (writing letters, reaching out to him, covering up his secrets) kind of emphasizes this thought for me. This entire time Kaeya has been trying to show Diluc they aren’t Crepus and Eroch and he will never turn traitor to his brother.

Diluc has had to work for the past decade to slowly accept that fact
