Considering it's one of the few things that inquisitors can really do to set themselves apart, I think they get ultra specific about what they want and will fight to keep it that way.
Obviously the inquisition cant just have a hair stylist on hand, and while another inquisitor can probably do it I don't think anyone's that insane, so I think Blink has to specifically set aside a day or a series of days where specially contracted hair stylists come in to cut everyone's hair.
Pretty much everyone takes advantage of those days considering they only happen once every few months.
I think autumn and aurora are the only ones who don't participate and that's mainly cause Autumn does her own hair – She likes to turn it pink but the shade is up to her mood that day– and cuts aurora's cause she hates it touching her neck.
I do think Autumn also cuts hair for others when she has to, say someone can't stand their hair in their eyes but it grows too fast. But she doesn't like to. There's a running joke/rumor that if you ask her to cut your hair within a month of the last stylist day, she curses you with nightmares for a week.
Come to think of it, inquisitors have an extremely skewed idea of what 'old' is.
They call Crow, who is 35 at most, an old man and he even complains about his age himself which on the surface seems a little strange until you realize that for them, that is the oldest someone can get.
Yes, they see old people like general Crawfell who's in his late fifties, but those people are not inquisitors and therefore not old.
For inquisitiors, living to thirty is like hitting 90 where it's uncommon enough for people to celebrate it. To be 35 is like their hundred. You should've been dead awhile ago and one wrong move could now kill you.
It also doesn't help that they see 14-15 year olds as adults simply because they're full inquisitors, and because on average they'll only have ten years of life anyway.
But considering the pressures of inquisition life, not just the missions but training, navigating the headquarters which may as well be 100 people living in one massive house, and balancing your own powers with other people's, most inquisitors end up being generally more mature by necessity, so an 8 year old is about as mature as a 10 year old, and a 15 year old has to act at lesst 17 to get by.
Plus, all that stress wears out the body quicker, meaning by the time they're in the late 20's, their already degrading from constant pressure.
As the title say, I'm gonna kinda explain how discipline works in the inquisition cause why not?
First, we've already established that the inquisition runs on a hierarchy of respect, with the healers being at the very top of the list, then the Head Inquisitor, the Second, and then it goes from age/experience.
Fighting is, of course, normalized and even expected given their whole history and purpose. There's no 'HR' because this might as well be a massive, dysfunctional family of 75-100 people at a time all under the same roof.
Typically, if you have a problem with someone, you sort it out with them individually, either by talking or by challenging them on a full moon. Only if it gets in the way of a mission does the Head Inquisitor get involved to set things straight.
Other than that, the rules are pretty loose:
1) No one is allowed to leave headquarters without express permission from the Head Inquisitor or the Second.
2) Don't attack anyone without issuing a proper challenge
3) Missions come above all else
They don't even have a rule about respecting the Head or the healers since that gets picked up over time anyway, and sometimes you need to get a little messy to get the point across.
But, when dealing with an organization that trains child soldiers, it's not uncommon for people to go too far or to break one of the above concrete rules and that's when discipline gets involved.
Depending on the age group, if it's a child in the 3-5 age group, they just get reprimanded verbally and are put in time out away from the rest of the kids.
Age groups 6-13 have started training with their respective group instructors, and as such if they do something that requires disciplinary action they typically get pitted against their instructor and told to spar.
The respective instructor for each age group knows how much that kid can handle and pushes them a little past that limit without causing true harm, before having the kid apologize.
If the child is stubborn, or has continued repeated offenses after the first time, usually the Head Inquisitor gets involved and will spar the kid in front of everyone. Usually the intimidation alone is to get through the stubbornness, but the head inquisitor is still expected to be gentler than usual and follow pointers given by the instructor.
Things like interruptions aren't a big deal in the inquisition considering an instructor only had 10-15 kids for numerous years, and a very flexible schedule for teaching those kids what they're supposed to learn. You have to go extreme just to get reprimanded tbh.
For numbered over 13 and Named in general, there's more offenders of the first and second rule more than anything, and usually the head inquisitor will decide the punishment.
Punishment for them typically ranges from being kicked off missions for awhile, confinement to the medical bay, a verbal reprimand in mind cases, or sparring with the head inquisitor in which the head is not expected to hold back.
But sparring the head inquisitor rarely happens, instead it's usually the first two.
There is one other punishment that is as rare as it is extreme: Death. Usually carried out by the head inquisitor in front of the rest of the inquisition, in which the defender is given one last fight to stay alive by defeating and killing the current Head.
But that sentence is saved only for those that attempt to leave or betray the inquisition. Blink has never had to carry out one of these sentences and prays she never will.
So yeah! Inquisitors are kinda crazy but also chill with punishments and the like. It takes a lot to actually get punished for something considering how loose they are with rules, but those punishments can go to extreme when they're carried out.
May have to bring the number of inquisitors down from 150 to 100 if I'm going to put so much focus on the inquisitions dwindling existence. I'm writing out a headcount specifically for myself below
Main inquisitors: Blink, Marcus, Autumn, aurora, blaze. Count: 5
Caretakers: 6 (3 with babies, 3 with toddlers)
Healers: 3 + Elise - 4
Age group 0-2: 15
Age group 3-5: 20
Age group 5-7: 10
Age group 8-10: 10
Age group 11 - 14: 15
15+ Named: 13 + Buster
Extracted numbers: - 1 pre sophia
Total slots: 99
Numbers used: 1-98, 100
The exact numbers of each group are subject to change, but the reason there's more kids than full inquisitors is a direct parallel to Blink getting bolder in collecting more and more kids as time goes on, and providing more reason to have the king demand she employ kids to start running missions.
Also, the forget-me-not is an old piece of technology from at least 300 years prior and it made out of some incredibly outdated technology that's rusted over and in danger of breaking every day.
Because it was made it someone's memory altering enhancement, it can't be replicated so autumn and aurora have to work almost every day trying to repair what they can on this steadily failing machine to preserve it just a little longer. It's going to fail eventually, but the inquisition has been running with it in mind for so long that no one's sure what will happen when it does break down for the last time.
This breakage is why the memory wiping has been so hit and miss with people like Blink and the twins.
Actually, when Marcus regains his memories as both Marcus and Hunter, that's because the forget-me-not just hasn't been maintained by the twins for months up to that point and it's final failing was giving back all of Marcus' memories after a solid few months of acting entirely strange. After that it breaks permanently.
Sooo yeah. Fun plotting shit cause I need to write this down and I am NOT pulling out my notebook at 3am
Since I'm sick myself I might as well talk about what happens when Flu season comes to the inquisition ^-^
So to start, inquisitors don't get vaccines like flu shots since, for the most part, they're not around outsiders long enough to catch any viruses.
However, when one person in the inquisition catches something, the entire inquisition is sure to follow and it lingers for weeks before it finally fizzles out.
When, say, a flu hits the inquisition the caretakers and those around the youngest Numbered are separated and replaced until they're better, with younger kids from ages 5-10 usually being confined to their barracks and the cafeteria until they recover with only one or two Named to keep them entertained. All training is put on hold for these ages.
When you're 11-15 you have to continue combat classes as normal, much to the student's dismay, but the criteria and expectations are generally lower than normal. They're careful to have a healer on hand in case anything happens.
Named are expected to carry out their usual tasks as if they weren't sick, though Blink tries to keep them from going out on missions unless absolutely necessary. If all inquisitors are sick at the same time, Blink will usually take up the mission herself regardless of her own physical health or at the very least divy up the mission to a team of inquisitors who have just recovered or haven't had the full brunt of the sickness yet.
Healers are usually busiest around this time, but if it's not a physical injury they're not as great at fixing the issue so much as easing the symptoms. Regardless, every healer practically works overtime with little sleep when the flu hits the inquisition, with Eight specifically having to balance caring for everyone else while also keeping an eye on Blink to make sure she's not pushing too hard either
Generally speaking it's hell for everyone involved and infighting is more common during this time because of it.
…………. i dont want y'all to take this the wrong way but why are lavellan’s always branded as the special ones….. like…… all the races are on the same level man……
