Volenta's devotion (originally: Volenta hite) 2025 Watercolour on paper
I've been missing watercolours.
I'm not going to make Warhammer 40 000 a regular thing on my blog now. I have never even played any of it. However, @inquisitornocturn 's character Volenta has inspired me; namely, the mental image of little Volenta being so far from what she would one day become but already so faithful to the Emperor was somehow moving to me. And I got permission, so here is little Volenta, praying to the Emperor of Mankind. I know she normally wears mainly black and silver in the "present" of the story, but I painted her this way for several reasons: first, I gather that at the time she would wear whatever she can find, she wouldn't really have much of a budget for fashion choices; second, for composition reasons black was going to be a bad choice; third, I wanted a visual parallel between the emperor's golden armour and Volenta's seen-better-days yellow T-shirt, since she's his little follower. n_n (I was in fact considering having twigs tangled in her hair, but then that seemed… a bit much, it might arouse suspicion she was doing that on purpose, and that is not my intention.)
Though I say I got permission, Nocturn doesn't know what I was going to paint. So I can only hope she approves.
