ScarletWidow x Fem!Reader TW's: Self-Harm, Abuse (not described in major detail) [A/N] This was a hard one to write so I hope you all enjoy it! ❤️ Thanks for the request lovely 😘
Natasha groans loudly, having to walk away from the mat where she’s been sparring with you. As usual, you haven’t been taking training seriously; too busy flirting with her to concentrate on what Natasha was actually trying to teach you. Wanda sighs and follows out after her, putting a hand on her shoulder “Nat-”
“No, I’m sick of her! She’s a lovely girl with potential but she just messes around all the time.” Natasha folds her arms “I am so close to going to Fury and reporting her, she’s pissing me off-”
“You need to take a breather.” Wanda says, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend’s waist “Go take a break, I’ll train with her for a bit.”
“I don’t want to take a break; I want to teach her this shit and she-” Natasha fumes, her lips pursing “Fine. Fine, I’ll go sit in the common room for a bit.”
Wanda kisses her cheek and watches Natasha leave before sighing wearily and heading back to the training room where you’re waiting. For a split second Wanda thinks you look a little worried but your expression quickly changes back into your usual cockiness as you see her “Hey pretty,” You grin “You convinced Natasha that you two should go on a date with me yet?”
Wanda rolls her eyes “If you want to convince her to go on a date you should probably pay attention when she’s trying to teach you stuff.”
“Can’t help it, you’re both so distractingly beautiful.” You tease.
Wanda sighs and spends the rest of the afternoon trying to patiently talk you through a simple drill exercise but of course you don’t stay focused on the task, too busy flirting with Wanda and trying to make her laugh. She remains calm even though you’re grating on her as well.
Outside of training Wanda and Natasha are both really fond of you – they don’t mind you flirting with them occasionally, they think your compliments are funny. But they wish you would take things seriously sometimes. You were the newest Avengers recruit and you’d been pair with Natasha and Wanda to help get you up to speed with your training. On your first night they’d invited you to drinks and you’d all gotten along immediately. The problems had occurred at training the next morning. You were always too busy flirting and joking to take anything seriously.
Natasha returns, insisting she’s calmed down enough to sufficiently train you. Wanda is sceptical so she stands to the side, watching as Natasha teaches you how to block an attack. Of course, you’re still not paying attention – just laughing and flirting. So Natasha decides to take matters into her own hands and throws a punch at you. A hard one that connects, splaying you back over the mat.
“Holy shit, Nat!” Wanda cries, crouching down next to you.
“This is why you need to pay attention!” Natasha snaps “If we were out on the field you can’t afford to be knocked down like that, you-”
“Nat!”
Natasha looks down, seeing the way you’ve reacted to being hit down like that. You look shell-shocked – Natasha hadn’t hit you that hard. You were an ex-SHIELD agent who’d been recruited to the Avengers when SHIELD had dispersed. It was likely that you’d taken a hit before. Yet your hand clutches your chest and your eyes fill like you’re a little girl being bullied on the schoolyard.
“Y/N,” Natasha says, squatting down in front of you “Look, I didn’t mean to hurt you. But this is why you need to pay attention. You’re going to take a hit in this line of work, you-”
You pull yourself to your feet and quickly leave the gym. Wanda sighs “Nat-”
“I was too hard on her, I know.” Natasha says quietly “I just…”
“You’re right. She does need to listen but… You have quite the punch Nat. She’s still a trainee.”
Natasha stands up with a small groan “You’re right. I’m gonna go and check on her.”
“I’ll come with you.”
Natasha nods and the two women head to your room, assuming that’s where you’ve gone. When you’re not training you spend a lot of time in your room. Natasha knocks on the door and they both wait for your response. Neither of them can hear any movement inside your room and after a moment Natasha thinks you must be somewhere else when suddenly the door opens just a crack and your head pokes out.
“Hey,” Natasha says softly “Are you okay? I didn’t mean to be so hard on you, I-”
“I’m fine.” You say too quickly “I just… I think we’re done, right?”
“I- Yeah, we can be.” Natasha says “Why don’t you come downstairs? It’ll be dinner soon, we could play a game or something-”
“Maybe, yeah, I just… I’ll be down soon, okay? Just need to sort something.”
Before Natasha or Wanda can reply you’ve closed the door in their faces. Wanda glances at Natasha “I think that got to her more than she’s letting on.”
“Oh yeah, she’s a terrible liar.” Natasha says, looking worried “We’ll have to keep an eye on her.”
That night you don’t come down until dinner and when you do you’re back to your normal, cheery self. Natasha tries to apologise again but you brush it off, flirting with her and cheekily running your fingers through her hair. Wanda and Natasha aren’t convinced though – now they’re looking at you closely they can see that your smile doesn’t quite reach your eyes and your voice is too high-pitched. Natasha can tell you’re overcompensating but she’s not quite sure why.
Over the next few days they both keep an eye on you. You’re your usual, flirty self but now that they’re paying full attention to you they can see how your eyes don’t light up. You’re constantly smiling but you never quite seem happy. It makes them both feel uneasy as they watch you.
One night Natasha decides to confront you but when she tries to let herself into your room the door is locked from the inside. Bedroom doors aren’t supposed to lock for safety reasons and Natasha is concerned as she tries to pull the door open. A moment later you yourself pull the door open just enough to poke your head out as you had a few days ago. You grin “Hey Beautiful. How can I help you?”
Your grin frightens her a little bit. It’s almost haunting “No, I just… Was your door locked?”
“Oh, yeah. I overrode FRIDAY’s coding. The doors lock if there’s an intruder in the building for safety reasons, I managed to sort it so I can lock it whenever I want.”
“And why did you want it locked?”
You hesitate and Natasha feels uneasy before you grin again “Wouldn’t you like to know? Do you wanna come in? Better not actually, Wanda might get jealous.”
Natasha tilts her head to the side as she analyses you for a moment. She’s about to open her mouth to speak when you suddenly flash her another smile that doesn’t meet your eyes and then disappear into your room, closing the door behind you. Natasha feels uneasy. There’s something about this that she doesn’t like.
She heads back to Wanda who’s alone in the living room, flicking through the streaming services. Natasha sits down opposite her “I’m seriously worried about Y/N.”
Natasha tells her about the conversation the two of you just had and Wanda frowns “How did she override FRIDAY?”
“I don’t know. But why is she so desperate to lock the door?”
“Well, she could be… You know. She is single; she probably owns a vibrator-”
Natasha rolls her eyes and shakes her head “No, it’s… I just feel uneasy Wanda. Have you ever been in her room?”
Wanda thinks for a moment then shakes her head; her own expression turning concerned “No. She’s always making flirty comments and suggesting I go in her room. But then one night we were both heading to the living room when she said she’d forgotten her cardigan. I offered to go back to her room with her and she got all cagey, like she didn’t want me in her room after all.”
“That’s it, I’m going to re-override FRIDAY.” Natasha says, standing up.
Wanda opens her mouth to protest about your privacy but the words die on her tongue. It is strange that neither of them has been in your room. Come to think of it, she’s not sure anyone has been in your room. What are you hiding in there?
Natasha sits down at the computer and starts looking at FRIDAY’s controls. She frowns “Did you know she’s managed to get FRIDAY to soundproof her room?”
Wanda looks over Natasha’s shoulder though she’s not as tech savvy so she’s not sure what she’s looking at “Why would she need to do that?”
“I don’t know.” Natasha taps at the keys “You think she’s committing murders in there or something?”
Wanda lets out a small laugh “No, I don’t think that’s what she’s doing.”
“She’s clearly up to something though.” Natasha stands up “I’ve taken it down. Her doors unlocked and her rooms not soundproofed anymore.”
They both walk towards your room but stop in the corridor when they suddenly hear anguished screams coming from your room. Wanda hesitates, standing back. The screams sound so personal, so animalistic that it almost feels private, something she shouldn’t be witnessing. Whereas Natasha strides forward with no such inhibitions and rips your bedroom door open.
The sight they find shocks both of them to the core. You’re in the middle of the room, a smashed mirror on the floor in front of you. Your arms are covered in blood and when Natasha takes a step into your room she finds that your bed sheets are also covered in blood. The bedroom is a mess with furniture overturned or smashed and broken. Natasha slowly drops down to her knees next to you. Your cheeks are red, tears streaming down your cheeks as you look down at the broken mirror “Y/N…” Natasha says softly “Y/N, Sweetie, can you look at me?”
You keep your gaze on the mirror and Wanda steps into the room, her stomach dropping at the amount of blood on your bed sheets. She slowly approaches your other side and squats down next to you “What happened? Did someone hurt you?”
You say nothing and Natasha slowly lifts her hand to run it gently through your hair “Did you do this to yourself?”
The question is rhetorical. Natasha knows exactly what happened here. She just doesn’t know why. You’ve stopped screaming and you’re now staring blankly at the broken mirror in front of you almost as if you’re in a trance now that you’ve been caught out. What strikes Natasha the most is your eyes – bloodshot, tear-filled and just so, so tired. You’re breathing heavily and when you still don’t respond Natasha feels even more worried. After a long moment she wraps her arms around you, careful not to knock your bleeding arms as she pulls you onto her lap.
Wanda swallows and then gently touches your hand “It’s okay… If you don’t wanna talk. Maybe I could… Maybe I could look? Only if you want though.”
You nod numbly, not making eye contact with either of them. Wanda glances at Natasha who simply nods once then Wanda holds her hand against your head, her eyes and hand lighting up with her red magic. Your memories are fast-paced and Wanda only gets a quick glimpse of them but she can feel your pain and suffering like it’s her own. She sees memories of your parents arguing, you cowering under your bed whilst your Father looks for you, you sitting alone over and over again at High School, your brother hitting you, all the nights that you stayed in your room and abused your body. By the time Wanda’s finished there are tears streaming down her own cheeks.
Natasha watches Wanda’s expression as she slowly runs a comforting hand up and down your back. Wanda meets her eye and then looks at you again, taking your hand in hers “Why didn’t you tell us?” She asks.
You still don’t say anything and Natasha sighs “We need to get you cleaned up.”
“I don’t wanna go to the medbay.” You mumble, your voice distant and flat “I don’t want- Anyone else-”
“Okay.” Wanda says quickly, looking at Natasha “We’ll get you cleaned up in here, okay?”
Natasha stays with you whilst Wanda fetches the items she needs before gently cleaning your arms, careful not to aggravate the wounds further. Both of them seem to simultaneously realise they’ve never seen your limbs before, you’ve always worn trousers and long sleeves – when Natasha gently rolls up your gym leggings just a few inches she sees they’re also littered in angry cuts. She sighs, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. You sniffle and mumble flatly “I’m sorry I’m so annoying. I don’t know why I’m like that.”
“You’re not annoying.” Natasha says firmly “You’re a lovely, kind-hearted girl and we think the world of you.”
“You’re our friend.” Wanda says, gently bandaging your arms “We love you Y/N, you-”
“You hit me.” You mumble “He did too. I deserved it.”
“No, no you didn’t.” Natasha cringes, her arms tightening around you as she remembers “You don’t deserve that Y/N, you don’t, I promise.”
“It’s going to be okay now.” Wanda promises “We’re going to take care of you Y/N.”
“We’re not going to let you do this to yourself anymore.” Natasha says “We’re going to get you the help you need.”
“I’m tired, I’m so tired.” You mumble tearfully “Every time I fall asleep I have these nightmares- I wake up screaming… It’s embarrassing.”
“You don’t need to be embarrassed. A lot of us have bad dreams.” Natasha says. She shares a look with Wanda, silently communicating with her “You’re coming to sleep in our room tonight.”
“No, I can’t, I’ll keep you both up-”
“Yes you are.” Wanda says “You look exhausted Sweetie and we’re not leaving you alone, not like this.”
You don’t make any attempt to move so Natasha effortlessly lifts you into her arms, carrying you to hers and Wanda’s room. Wanda closes the room to your bedroom behind her – that’ll need sorting at some point, making it a nice space for you again but not tonight. There’s a long road ahead and that’s not high on Wanda’s list of priorities for you right now.
Natasha tucks you into bed and both women climb in either side of you. Wanda gently rubs your back whilst Natasha runs her fingers through your hair “You’re not alone anymore.” Natasha whispers “We’re right here with you. And we always will be.”
They both mean it. Their irritation with your flirty, mischievous personality is completely gone now they know it was just a front to hide the pain you were really feeling. Natasha wipes a tear from your cheek making a silent vow to herself. They’re going to stay by your side. Not just until you’re better. But forever. You’re theirs now. Whether you like it or not.
