I have never seen a fandom so rabid, so bitchy and so out of control. I'm sure you've all heard about my 'fun' times at Corio, so I won't go over that again, but my god people!

There's a blog I've been reading for a while. At first it was harmless enough (if a little catty) but not personal to people commenting etc. Anons asked questions, left opinions and it was all good (for the viewers, the person the subject matter was about would loathe it) then the tone changed. It became bitter, sniping, nasty and resorting to childish insults.

'Sources' are quoted like it's gospel, but they could be anyone. Someone who worked on a film with the subject, someone from the US etc etc etc. That's not a source, that's hearsay. It's no more reliable than; 'My friend's mum's sister's dog's gynaecologist said...'  

The worrying thing is that people are accepting it as fact. The person concerned now has a cocaine habit, fuck buddies, sleeping with under age girls, is an asshole, has his PR controlling every aspect of his personality, has daddy issues, was abused as a child, was abused at school, lies, cheats etc etc ad infinitum. 

I'm not saying that the above isn't true because I DON'T KNOW HIM. What I do know is that stating these things as FACT when the sources are vague and unreliable, and seeing them spread across the internet is unfair.

I doubt don't he's human. I don't doubt he has issues (we all do) but running a blog that is essentially pulling this poor person to pieces is not only cruel and pointless, but so pathetic I'm in awe. It smacks of envy, pettiness and low self esteem. But god forbid we start making assumptions about the author. From MY 'sources' she's a crack whore with fifteen kids, every STD going, drug dealer, meth head and the reason for every bad thing that ever happened in the world. 

Do you see the point I'm trying to make? I know nothing about her. She knows NOTHING about him. It's all Bull, and potentially ruining someone's career is pretty sad. And call my a Nanny, I really don't care, I've been called a LOT worse. I don't think he's Prince Charming. I think he's a man that deserves respect. I think he's a human being that has been burned by fans and now has to deal with hate that he hasn't earned. I think the fact that people are wasting their time on this little assault is tragic. I have a fucking sad life, but I wouldn't waste it sending more hate into a world that's brimming over with it.

Think how you would feel if people were saying these things about you. And I know you'll all be saying 'He doesn't need you to defend him. He's a big boy.' Who cares? Standing by when something you disagree with happens is as bad as being a part of it. And how can he stand up for himself? People in the public eye just have to shrug it off and ignore it, so I damn well will call out hate when I find it. That's what this is. Petty, bitter hatred aimed at a man who is just trying to do a job he loves. Acting is his passion. All the fan shit is a by product of that. No one deserves to be targeted in this cowardly way. And it is cowardly - you're all anon and faceless. You don't have to look the person you're insulting in the eye or see its effects. If this is all you have to contribute to the world, I'd recommend doing something more positive and productive as there is more than enough hate filled crap out there.

If you don't like what he does ignore him. If he offends you, stop talking about him and dissecting every tiny detail about him. It's the worst kind of obsession because there is no positive about it. Not one single, solitary contribution to the world of use or reason.

But aside from targeting 'him' the pure venom that spills out when people disagree! It's frightening the level of vitriol you can have for someone you've never met. The name calling. The swearing. The disgusting language. It is so needless. If you have that much hate in you take it out on a punch bag. Retaliating to someone you've referred to as 'a child' with such hatred says far more about the older person than it ever will about the younger.

I know nothing's going to change as people get so set in their ways and are stubborn enough to think they're always right, but take a step back and think about what you're REALLY doing.
