Round-leaved Sundew is a small carnivorous plant that grows in bogs, marshes, and fens throughout the boreal regions of the world. Drosera rotundifolia is common in Minnesota bogs, often nestled among sphagnum moss. The sugary dew drops on its thin red leaves attract sweet-toothed insects to a fatal meal. The sundew slowly closes around its prey, dissolving the insect, and absorbing its nutrients. This evolutionary behavior compensates for the lack of nutrients often inherent in bogs.
