Just wanted to show off the first Orchid flower that popped. 🌞 This is its second set of flowers, which is unheard of for Orchid owners!! Because of the fact that Orchids are very moody and hard af to take care of. 🌻 I am not only proud of myself, but proud of the plant. 😎💕

Finally managed to get my straw substrate sterilised in the microwave and innoculated with blue-grey oyster mushroom spawn.

Hopefully this method is effective, because it was pleasantly quick and simple compared to every other sterilisation method I’ve tried!

I’ve used two different containers to see which is more effective - one plastic mushroom container (thoroughly washed ofc) in a compostable doggy bag to help keep the substrate moist, and one (thoroughly washed) plastic milk bottle with holes punched in the side for fruiting bodies to grow through.

They’re in my bedroom cupboard atm which is dark and warm, and I will be spritzing with warm water regularly to keep them moist. Fingers crossed!

One of my favourite things to do about lunch is to stuff a pita bread with greens and say tikka masala or something else with protein and sauce. Buying said greens is less appreciated - because yikes, the costs add up, and well. Ever find a bag with forgotten greens in your fridge? Yuck

So, I’m turning my kitchen window into somewhat of a mini-garden. Pea shoots, lettuce, herbs... Maybe later I’ll add cucumbers (yes, there are sorts that don’t mind being grown inside in a pot) or something else. But. A food window isn’t a bad thing to see each morning.

I've been fighting an aphid infestation on my houseplants for about two months and I've finally given up and brought in some experts. Both the poison spray and natural remedies failed, and even taking all the plants outside and physically squishing and hosing off the bugs didn't get rid of them all.

 So about a week and a half ago I captured a pair of tiny frogs from the water reservoirs in my outside plants and released them inside the house. Now I know this may sound a little cruel since we do have four cats, but I also have 43 different good-sized plants in my house in two big clusters of containers. So I put a dish with water and rocks in the center of one of the clusters, and as long as the frogs stay in and around the plants and pots, the cats ignore them. They're also only about an inch long and the same color as 98% of my houseplants.

 So far I've had to perform two frog rescues because one of them got down on the floor and the cats found them. But the cats are well fed and only somewhat curious so nobody got hurt. The grow bulbs I keep on at night give them a good excuse to stay in that general area too.

 According to Google- frogs eat aphids. And if they want to snack on the mosquitoes and spiders that frequently get in too, that also makes me happy. The age and general dilapidation of this house make for frequent insect problems.

 Oh yeah, and these frogs don't make any noise. That could get a little annoying. Or maybe they just realize that croaking could attract the cats and keep it buttoned!

 But this is the first time since I let them loose that I've seen both of them at once. They were perched on two plants directly opposite one another. :3

Qatar is my third country to call home, not including my *real* home Australia, of course.  Ive learned to find things to keep me busy, achieve a goal ... or simply pass the time while I'm unemployed and lacking friends!

I grew an Avocado tree!  My Gran would be so proud!
