I’m still anti-social media, but I feel compelled to share this reflection: - I recently had a dance breakthrough I needed while attending @thegalenhooksmethod Checkup. As a dancer and artist, I’ve been obsessed with this idea of becoming one with energy itself—to emanate aura, drunk off power, and expressing with intensity. In my explorations, I don’t really have too many problems committing to zealous characters in fantastical worlds and moving with dynamic explosions. Rather, one of my biggest hurdles is I forget to breathe. - I came to the realization that I’ve gotten as far as I have dancing as an act of self-indulgence. My pleasure is derived out of this chase for doing more and more and more that it all blurs and loses impact. @galenhooks gave me the same feedback as last time, that I commit to so much energy without letting the thoughts or ideas be seen. But what does scaling back even mean? Is my selfishness perhaps a projection of insecurity, a fear of stillness and connection? Am I breathing? - Moving forward, I’m now on a journey of dance as an act of giving. As an exercise of immersive worldbuilding, I’m envisioning moving with such grace that invites and welcomes audiences to my manifested reality instead of locking myself within. I hope to discover connection through unapologetic vulnerability. I love dancing because it frees me and I intend to keep moving so that we’re all free with the capacity to express our deepest truths.
