Something I love about the Pitt finale is that Abbot acknowledges that yes, Robby broke. He did. And maybe it wasn't just thirty seconds, or three minutes, maybe it was ten, and it did make things harder. Robby says, "I cracked," and Abbot doesn't say, "No, you didn't, it's not your fault."
He says, "So what?"
Abbot, the veteran, the amputee, the attending who stands on the roof and thinks about jumping knowing exactly what it would do, says, "So what?" because yes, you broke, you screwed up and you are screwed up, and you keep going anyway.
You can't run from the ways in which you're broken and the mistakes you've made. You have to face them, and maybe understand they'll never fully heal, and leave you with scars and aches and missing pieces. You can't make it better and you can't fix it all. But you have to face it. You have to. We all have to.
And they do, together. Everyone in the Pitt crew does, in some way or another, and that's what lets them keep showing up--what lets them survive. That's how you get through, after all: "By leaning on friends and family."
