I'm no expert in marital counselling. But truly, it seems, our family unit system has really detoriated in the last 30 years. Why have we become so obstinate, self centered and self-obsessed ? Why are we less tolerant of the other persons needs and wants ? (provided its not a case of physical abuse) When a couple parts ways, the child (if involved) suffers the most. The vacuum, the emptiness, the need to feel complete, the need for a father figure's stability or the need for being cared for by a mother, can be quite detrimental to this little child's personality. He grows with these feelings & developes with a passive insecurity. And the whole cycle will repeat itself later. We don't need broken homes - we need more tolerant partners. I was far from an easy person to live with, but over the years, i have gradually (moderately) altered my personality, far from where i was. I am HAPPY now. I am grateful that my partner was tolerant of me where he could be - but I'm also glad he did not tolerate my needless demands of excessive attention. It helped me to realize my limits and respect his limits too. We've been married for 20 years with PLENTY of hurdles. One advise to new couples - the easiest way out of a sticky situation is to walk out but thats just a bandaid to a deep wound. As long as there is no physical abuse - give the relationship a chance. Work on the issues, identify the difficult areas in order to avoid them from being repeated. Turn to couples counseling. And COMMUNICATE !!! Ladies - stop brooding in silence. Talk to the guy. Get it out in the open and let him know where and how he hurt you, consciously or subconsciously. Nothing drives men, more mad than the silent treatment and i guess, we women know this, so we use it to our advantage.
