I wonder if the experience would be different with a more precisely engineered apparatus that would let you have both eyes open at once. Seems like something like that might require a long tube, though.
But the most striking thing by far was the goggle’s illusion of “zoomedness.” Just limiting the aspect ratio of the real word made each object appear closer, magnified. It was different than just having altered depth perception; the very scale of things was altered through cropping alone.
