How to install baseboards...suggestions is what this DIY howto video is about. VideoJoe has just removed some carpets, padding, & tack strips & is getting ready to stain & seal some concrete floors. He's got some old existing baseboards & they have not all been installed the same for this entire house. In one area the baseboards have been installed about half an inch higher than the existing concrete floors while in another area the baseboards were installed down tight to the existing flooring while still in another area there is a quarter round trim attached to the bottom of the baseboards. Hmmmm what's the deal with these old baseboards & does he want to do anything different to the old baseboards or leave them alone? How to Cut & Install Baseboards Around Corners

How to cut & install baseboards around corners is what this DIY howto video is about. VideoJoe has installed a few boards in his time & he likes to use a compound mitre crosscut saw to cut his baseboards with. He will cut 45 degree inside corners & then caulk the corners when he gets done. He's had a few viewers tell him he should cope all of his inside corners as no corner is ever a perfect 90 degree corner but you know what? If you are installing baseboards that will be painted, & most are painted, what difference does it make if your 45 degree cuts aren't perfect perfect on an inside corner since all inside corners on painted baseboards should be caulked anyway? I don't really care how tight a coping corner is, you will still need to caulk it because of the nice little black hairline crack you will see between two pieces of baseboard no matter how tight that line is. That's why 45 degree corners is what VideoJoe cuts since he can use his compound mitre crosscut saw to cut all the base & he doesn't have to get out a coping saw for all of the inside baseboard corners. Cutting around an outside bullnose corner you would then have to decide if you are going to use precut manufactured curved pieces of base or are you going to cut tiny pieces of the baseboards you are installing. I've seen it both ways but I prefer the rounded edge precut pieces but they cost a pretty penny each & you might have to special order to fit to the type of baseboards you will be cutting & installing.
