Proshipping doesn't mean being into problematic media nor supporting incest, pedophilia etc.
Proshipping is simply in favour of shipping characters with each other regardless if it makes sense. It's for having fun and being anti censorship.
Being anti censorship doesn't necessarily mean liking dark fiction. It means being against censoring these kinds of stories because even if they are gross to YOU and YOU might not know with what intention the author created them with they CANNOT be censored.
If you censor one thing because you're uncomfortable with it, if you advocate for censoring it then what's stopping someone else from censoring queer stories? Stories that contain sexual material. Stories that talk about sexual assault based on lived life experiences?
Yes a ship of an adult and a child is gross, it's illegal (if it happened in real life) but you don't know why someone made it nor does it hurt any real life people, so unfortunately you'll have to accept that it exists and skip it instead of interacting with it.
Don't interact with media that you don't like ! That's why we have content warnings that's why we can filter out content that isn't for you!
The purpose of the media is to make people think, to make you uncomfortable and to stop awful things like that from becoming taboo, because if they become taboo, if real life people will be too embarrassed or too frightened to share them then it isn't helping anyone.
Playing shooting games doesn't make you a soldier. Watching horror movies doesn't make you a murderer or a creep. People can consume media they don't agree with; we do it for entertainment, we do it to feel scared, disgusted, repulsed. You can judge someone for reading dark fiction or producing it if you don't know what that person experienced or why they are writing something like that. If you truly support victims you CAN'T judge someone for that.
It is true that some of these pieces might be made for notorious reasons, and can be criticized in mainstream media for that, but fandom isn't mainstream media.
You claim to be anti harassment, but you harass people.
You claim to support victims, but your puritan actions make people afraid to speak out.
You claim to care about children's safety, but instead of calling out real groomers and pedophiles you call age gap relationships between two consenting adults problematic.
You claim not to consume problematic content, yet you find loopholes within it when you want to enjoy it.
You claim that brain developments until the age of twenty five and below that you can't be considered an adult yet you as an 18 year old try to argue with people far past your age what is acceptable and isn't.
You know how you look? Like a judgmental grandma that clenches her pearls when she sees a gay couple walking through the street.
You aren't morally superior for this. You are just uneducated and ignorant to the fact that issues aren't black and white.
You can personally not agree with things, you don't have to understand things that aren't meant for you! Some of you are really acting like your homophobic parents.
The problem is acting like a superiority figure when you simply aren't. The problem is spreading misinformation, and assuming things about people you don't know. You're responsible for your own triggers and If you willingly interact with media that isn't for you that's your problem! And if you're obsessed with calling out people that you label as "creeps" what can I say maybe you should look inwards why is that?
And if you're a survivor, you have no right to tell other people how to cope with their trauma. Exposure therapy is not for you? Great! So don't do it.
This is coming from an asexual author that doesn't consume any form of "dark media" but has something called empathy and common sense.
And the last thing. Not everything that includes this kind of content is sexualising it and even if it is we can't censor it!
And if you aren't fine with dark media, but you like horror and you are fine with violence then maybe the problem isn't "problematic content" maybe you have a problem with sexual content in general regardless of what it portrays which in that case check if you aren't repulsed by your own sexuality cuz that's concerning and you shouldn't take it out on other people.
