Morrigan, 2019 for Lazy Jane
It’s not Polaroid week any longer. Not really sure what happened but my grand plans for last week kinda crumbled before I ever really got going... but I enjoy Polaroids whenever and have actually never shot a Polaroid during the celebratory week anyway. I hand’t posted this one of Morrigan because I thought I already had, but looking back I didn’t see it. If you’ve been paying attention you’ve definitely seen this image before as I took two slight variations on my Hasselblad and another on 35mm. I really loved everything at play here, the vertical lines on the wall, the grid of the comforter, the lighting (I went sans flash which I rarely do on my SX-70). What I loved most was the mystery of Morrigan here, just those eyes peeking out, at times I’ve let the Lazy Jane series venture too far into boudoir and this shoot exemplified everything I wanted/want it to be... I think mysterious can certainly be an element to Lazy Jane.
Eva Walker, 2019
Well, I went into Polaroid week very excited, but blagh! Hasn’t worked out quite the way I’d hoped. My post from earlier today which was way less revealing than this one here was removed so I’m moving on and posting another amazing Polaroid this time featuring the incomparable Eva Walker looking like a fucking badass! Once again featuring the black frames which is fitting since Eva’s band is The Black Tones.
Dylan, 2019
I’ll never grow tired of these Polaroids and it’s likely that before the year is done I will have posted every single one of them. These Polaroids were a combination of some amazing work by Dylan, some very fortunate lighting provided by the sun and a couple of fill lights, and then my correct guessing on the exposure compensation dial. I almost always use flash for my Polaroids, but often I forget to turn it off and on this day my batteries were shot, luckily there was just enough light. Quarantine has put a lot in perspective for me, I’ve focused a lot on what I think is really most important in my life, when it comes to photography I think what I’ve thought about the most is how I’d like to just shoot more. So often I practically refuse to shoot unless it directly contributes to a current project, my schedule typically doesn’t really allow for doing constant work but I could definitely ration my film in such a way that I would book more fun and simple shoots with the expectation that I will only be shooting 2 rolls. This shoot with Dylan wasn’t any specific project, just an opportunity to shoot and the results were fantastic.
The first book of a series of on-demand books collecting my instant photography (Polaroid, Impossible, Fuji) is now available. Order your copy now.
