Annon-Guy: Care to give me your thpughts and opinions on this video by SugarPunch in regards to Finishers and Story Narratives? (Features Mortal Kombat X, Guilty Gear Xrd and BlazBlue)
https://youtu.be/Tam9R6ru38s?si=PjJUJQCQ0Np7xVxZ
I will say what I have always said in the Instant Kill tag: the Story Mode Narrative is the only narrative that matters with Finishing Techniques.
With Mortal Kombat, Liu Kang was killed a few times in the narrative, though he did make a comeback, resulting in the Rebooted Timeline.
In BlazBlue Jin used Arctic Dungeon on Azrael, sealing him away. Ragna actually performed the killing blow of Black Onslaught to Terumi at the climax of Central Fiction.
In Guilty Gear there are also a few instances.
Venom used his Instant Kill twice: the first being a Mercy Kill in Night of Knives Drama CD, using Deimmu Borgir (Dark Fortess) on one Sir Gottfried, to end his humiliation of mutating in to a Gear Beast hybrid. The second time being Tera Machina System on Bedman, though Bedman survived the attack.
Another more subtle example was when Sol killed Justice, though the Narrative was complex:
In Sol’s first fight with Justice in 2173, he tried to use his “Killing World” version of Dragon Install, but it failed, only resulting in his Limiter Headguard breaking in Justice’ hand, revealing Sol’s Gear Seal to Justice for the first time. Justice initially spared Sol out of respect for his recklessness, though she would come to despise him for his betrayal as a Gear.
She later tries to convey her confusion about humans to Sol in 2175, but by then it is too late, and she is sealed away for five years.
In 2180’s Tournament, Sol used his Killing World on Justice again, this time resulting in a massive explosion later known as Napalm Death, though the end result also broke Sol’s Limiter.
Which is why, despite the fatal wound, Justice says (referring to both Sol’s attempts at her life):
“Once again I lay prostrate at your feet.. Flame of Corruption!”
She’s even seen holding the broken Limiter in her hands as she died.
Worth pointing out, you wouldn’t fully grasp the nuances of this particular narrative unless you played as both Order Sol and Justice Story Modes in both GGXX and Accent Core.
Anyway, that’s my stance on Finishing Techniques.

Finally got around to finishing Ace combat 067 Wingmen colour reference panels.
Then..a cool normie pal asked if it was some fighting game character panel. Upon telling them it was Ace Combat they were like "Is that like Mortal Kombat?". Well.. it could be?? Fixed it:
someone on discord joked about casting chris pratt as shadow and i blacked out for a minute
