ORIGIN STORY
Not much is known about Wade Winston Wilson before his sixteenth birthday, after a failed attempt at suicide the teen suffered severe memory loss. With no recollection of anyone or anything, he made his way from Canada into the United States. While there, Wade wandered the streets picking pockets to survive, but surviving without a purpose wasn't living. He took a page from his favorite hero's handbook and falsified his information to join the army at seventeen. Wade's natural affinity to combat, inability to miss any mark, and the fact that other languages were extremely easy for him to understand helped move him into the special forces within two years.
1878
At the ripe age of eighteen, Wade found himself knee deep in the business of death. Even though the side he was on during the American Civil War won, he couldn't find it in himself to call it a victory after fighting tooth and nail in pools of mud and blood. Despite his outlook on war, he stayed in the military for several years following orders until 1872.
After so many years of doing the same thing almost day in and day out, Wade found it hard adjusting to civilian life. After months of wandering aimlessly, he found his calling when someone made the mistake of hiring him to find their missing brother-in-law. It turned out the guy was trying to run off with his wife's best friend. Still fresh from his military training, Wade found it simple to collect clues and track down the star-crossed lovers. So naturally, in 1874 he opened his own Private Detective agency.
While digging in dumpsters outside of an Irish Pub, a man passed by him and offered him a missing clue on his current case. He sounded British, but when Wade poked his head out of the dumpster he only laid eyes on the man's back. He verbally thanked the man and looked into the tip. At the close of his case, he took a much needed vacation in order to find the man responsible for the tip.
2017
By the time the twin towers in New York fell, Wade himself had fallen into more unsavory projects for the special forces. As a soldier, he thought they were supposed to be for the greater good. Sometimes it was hard for him to come to terms with the things he had been ordered to do, but the longer he obeyed the more desensitized to the violence he became. In 2004, he made the mistake of falling in love while on an assignment. Unfortunately, the person he fell for was also the one he had been ordered to execute. When the signal came, Wade refused and went AWOL. Instead of hunting him down as they normally would, he was dishonorably discharged and all of his paperwork disappeared.
For four years after, he was a successful mercenary working mainly in south Asian countries until he figured it was safe to pay his way back into the states. Choosing only the jobs he wanted made his life much easier on his conscience. Even though he had always been ruthless in his dealings, he could rest easy knowing he never killed anyone that didn’t deserve it. So what if maybe a few hundred innocent people were hurt in the process, at least they had a cool story to tell at parties.
By 2009, Wade was back in the United States of America. He had found an organization he actually enjoyed working with and even got to be called a “hero” of sorts despite swearing up and down he wasn’t one. The bartender/dispatcher of a place previously called Sister Margaret’s had become Wade’s closest friend. Getting to know the types of missions Wade liked, the man named Weasel handed him one he didn’t think would end up changing Wade’s life forever.
The winter month’s were spent scoping out his target. He watched her do mostly boring day-to-day things, but persistence always rewarded Wade. When she had her own target in sight, Wade popped out of the shadows and eventually convinced her not to kill her prey. Despite their age difference, Wade fell in love with his assignment yet again. It wasn’t a slow fall either, it was like he jumped off a building and landed right in the thick of it. They had a full year to roam together, and Wade still took a few odd jobs from Sister Margaret’s when necessary, but disaster struck yet again.
In 2014, Wade collapsed and Anna rushed him to the hospital. There, Wade was given an expiration date and Anna was already looking for possible ways to make him better. It only took under two months for Wade to decide he didn't want to bring her down that path, so in the dead of night he vanished with every intention to accept and offer he thought he couldn't refuse because honestly, who didn't want to be a hero?
It took six months for an organization called Weapon X to drag out his latent mutant powers, however the methods they used to awaken them left Wade’s whole body completely scarred. Maybe he was cured, but that so-called cure came at a hefty cost Wade didn’t think was worth the trouble. The British villain, Francis, laughed at his reaction and told him the true purpose of their program. They were going to slap a collar on all of the patients and sell them to anyone in need of their own mutant killing machine. Wade thought only of himself when he set the whole building ablaze, and for his trouble he managed to kill his fellow experiments instead and the bad guys lived to see another day.
Too ashamed to try to meet Anna Marie face-to-face, Wade focused all of his energy on finding Francis to fix the damage their cure caused. Weasel suggested he drop it and just find the girl because she loves him, but of course Wade never followed good advice. Instead, he stalked Anna Marie whenever he had a chance and murdered people within Weapon X for nearly two years. Francis eventually realized the man tearing his organization to pieces was Wade Wilson, so he planned to kidnap Anna Marie. Luckily, Wade was always following her so she never even knew they were there.
All that time he spent looking for Francis to fix him was a waste. Whatever he thought the Bond villain could have done wasn’t possible, so after killing the asshole Wade finally decided he would go where all the mutants these days were going. Even though he knew rounding everyone up like this was in bad taste, he figured maybe it’d be fun to save the world with the guys that almost destroyed it twice.
