There is a specific kind of quiet that falls when an institution demands complicity. You see it when a school expects staff to ignore a teacher hitting a student, or when a company expects you to look past a superior harassing a colleague.

They call it protecting the brand. They expect you to play along.

Refusing to explain yourself to people who are committed to misunderstanding you is not an attitude. It is a boundary. Sometimes silence is the only space left to process the reality of a system operating exactly as it was built to.

The Fraud in the Mirror

It’s funny how things work out. I’ve spent years investigating institutional corruption, writing books that hit the Sunday Times Best Seller list, and advocating for criminal justice reform. Yet, I still feel like a fraud. Like I don't belong.

Recently, a comment I left on another Substack unlocked something I’ve been keeping in the dark: a spoken word piece called "Victim Impact Statement."

It’s about survival. It’s about the failure of the police and the "cardigan squad" who let my abuser continue. It’s about finding the fire to keep going when the system breaks your mind.
