THE MAYFLY

Insignificant tiny mayfly

Roaming free as you and I

Aquatic insect, ancient and shy

Cousin of the damsel and dragonfly

One year hibernating as a nymph

Doing nothing as it may seem

Flying freely as adults to mate

Lay eggs to die a cruel fate

Evolution’s a strange tradition

Adhere to natural selection

Increase and just multiply

By nature’s law comply

THE MORNING AFTER

The morning after

a grueling marathon

gin, rum, ticklish feather

hairs a mess, head weighs a ton

memory lapsed, what have I done

Prayers flew out the opened window,

perched on a branch with the midnight owl

soul locked in cold combat with the snow

I’m struggling in the dark at my best hour

No chance at all, just awaiting the devour

I hear the sound of morning church bells

Painful to my ears, nothing to appease

Where did I roam to arrive home unwell

Splitting of soul and spirit, loss of peace

as shattered glass in broken pieces

Confusion takes a heavy toll on me

Lonesomeness in desolated disaster

Tumbled mind attempting to climb a tree

No one to keep me safe and be together

to recall a memory on the morning after

IT’S DONE

It’s done

It’s gone

Naught and none

Just skin and bone

Ice cream without a cone

Melting, until a stick all alone

To space, to the thin air zone

No calls, no redial, no phone

No color, lifeless, no tone

It’s gone

It’s done

echo from beyond

attempting contact to bond

to renew a fond
