So I was watching an old movie recently (it's called Police Dog(I think it's from the 1950s) and I compared the physic of the German Shepards in that film (straight back and shoulders) to the German Shepards I saw at Crufts (they had low shoulders and downwards sloping backs). Is this a desirable trait in these dogs? Why do the shape of dogs change over generations? Thanks. I love your blog

Breeders want the sloped back and dropped hocks for some reason. Apparently it gives the dog’s a ‘noble bearing’.

Veterinarians, canine sports enthusiasts and even organizations like the police don’t like the trait. Working organisations today are more likely to favor Mallinios instead due to this skeletal weakness.

And I compared photos of an ‘old school’ shepherd with a modern prize winner here, and was chastised for doing so because “as a vet I should know better”, even though I selected two average examples, not the two most extreme examples I could find, and there are ample other examples anyone can find on their own.

German Shepherds have a large fan base who don’t want to hear than an error has been made in selecting for this conformation over the last couple of decades. Some of these dogs even run with their hocks on the ground, but apparently it’s folks like me that are over exaggerating, not the breed’s conformation.

Lewis or Morse?

As in “which show/character do I prefer”? Uh, Morse tbh - both the character and the show. I mean, Robbie Lewis is a wonderful character and Morse would be lost without him and he totally excels in his own show but personally I’m more drawm towards Morse.

Hey! What p&p or s&s related books are there? Like spin-offs or modern AUs?

P&P has so many. Bridget Jones’s Diary, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries novelization… Jo Baker’s Longbourn is like a spin-off P&P from the servants’ point of view. Amanda Grange…does a lot, but honestly I just read Mr. Darcy, Vampyre, and that was quite enough for me. Beyond slogging through Linda Berdoll’s godawful sequels for torturous kicks, I’ve largely avoided most Pride and Prejudice fanfic spin-offs or re-tellings, though I know they exist. (Particularly as regards the courtships of the remaining Bennet sisters and Georgiana.) I tried The Other Mr. Darcy where Caroline Bingley apparently finds happiness with that American cousin nobody mentioned until now but the first few paragraphs were laughably atrocious.For S&S there’s likely less because it’s just not as popular a story, but the Sea Monsters AU thing exists, there’s modernized film versions in From Prada to Nada and Kandukondain Kandukondain. Otherwise I suppose one would have to look to fanfics, as I can’t think of any published S&S spin-offs or AUs that I’ve seen in print apart from Sea Monsters. There’s webseries adaptations I’ve heard of, but haven’t seen.Followers, any book, film, or fic recs, particularly for Sense and Sensibility?
