The Mush chips are particularly inspired and an incredible concept by the aforementioned Zii. Mushrooms in our world contain so so much water so I imagine they might be hard to fry into tasty chips, but this particular mushroom? It's just perfect for chips, ok? Trust.

I also gotta confess that if I lived in the world of interconnections, my favorite fruit would probably be the boob fruit. I know, I'm sorry. I just think a fruit that wasn't tangy at all, but instead sweet, creamy, milky, and juicy would be incredible.

As someone who has eaten crispy fried ramen, I know it hurts my gums and my teeth to eat these things. Please imagine a version of this savory treat where the ramen actually isn't thick enough to hurt when you crunch on them. Instead, they're a little more like those korean turtle chips. Multilayered, but still crunch-friendly.

This week I bring to you a sample of the kind of fashion you'd see in Tsuktsu. As expected from a culture that draws a lot of inspiration from flowers and tropical birds, the threshold for "fanciness" in every day wear is very high. Some of the outfits listed here are considered casual and modest for the region's tastes. In future sets, I'll be showing off some more frilly garments.

More food concept art for my webseries!

I introduce to you some of my favorite food items in Interconnections. First of all, the coffee stick. It would be like a longer edible cigarette that is caffeinated. It also comes in harder variants that are more like pocky sticks. Next up, my second favorite dish is the fries in savory stew! The fries are fried twice for that extra crunch, which is what they do to korean fried chicken. And similarly to korean fried chicken, some stores season their fries with spicy sweet flavors, creamy flavors, etc.

Another food item from this collection that I would love to talk about is the pocket jelly! Similar to how a lot of candies in our world are modeled after cute characters, this magical food item takes it on step further and has animated expressions. They're not sentient at all, no worries!

Preliminary vehicle, airboard, and underwater city explorations

I want the vehicles to be a little beautiful! A little whimsical! I definitely think magic allows for some more leeway in defying physics, like having airships with three tiers of sails. I want to explore the possibilities of fun activities you can do in the sky, like airboarding, which would be very similar to surfing or skateboarding. People would design obstacle courses and races for this sport!

As for the underwater city concepts, I wanted to design cities that incorporated their environments. It's important to me that the cities have unique vibes that cannot be easily replicated on the surface.

I'm most definitely only midway through cooking this language, but here's YeTsuktsu, the most common language spoken in the Tsuktsu region, and thus Taba's first language!

I've got the IPA chart more or less locked in (for now), and I'm figuring out the syllable chart and overall visual design of the characters. YeTsuktsu reflects its culture in many ways! Historically, Tsuktsu was a very popular location for trade, so YeTsuktsu borrows a lot of characters and sounds from its neighboring languages. I really want this language to capture the region's energy and love for birds, so a lot of the visuals I am playing around with look like birds flight patterns. YeTsuktsu is syllabic and uses superscript as well as borrowed characters/kanji.

Fun things of note: You may notice there are two different "a" sounds. The flat "A" is inspired by bird squawks! Also, all the "u" sounds are very much inspired by bird coos, and the degree to which you roll the coo varies by dialect.

Design Explorations for Shoori and Taba's home!

Taba and Shoori live in a refurbished building that is attached to the archives that Shoori works at. The building used to be one of the living spaces of a long line of wealthy merchants. While these archives are still owned by this merchant family, they no longer need the housing, so it has since been divided up into a coliving space for employees of the archive.

I felt like this building was a great opportunity to explore traditional elaborate tsuktsu architecture of this region, so I really went all out with its design. This building is located in a subtropical climate, so its windows and balconies have little roofed buffer zones that extend out and prevent heavy rainfall from spilling into the house. These extended roofed zones also keep sunlight from shining into the house, and encourages you to leave windows open for natural air circulation. To help with the temperature, the pointed chimney that sticks up from the middle of the building serves as both an entrance for visitors that can fly (very useful to open up during parties), as well as a place for hot air to gather and escape. Also! These buildings are made of stone! And they've got little bird gargoyles perched on the corners of the roof! The third image shows that one side of the building has tall and large stain glass designs built into it, and the diamond shapes on the top are windows that can be opened into entrances. If you would like to see some similar windows in our world, look up Rajasthani architecture, extruded Rawashin, and Bhutan balconies.
