My Internship Experience
Why did I get an internship?
I always thought and wanted to get an internship because my professors insist on how important they are, and also we should get as many internships as we can because they help you a lot in your career.
Anyway, the real reason why I got that internship is that I couldn’t afford to do a summer session in my university, so that was the best option for me instead of studying or staying at home.
What kind of internship?
Since it was my first internship ever, and also my first experience within a workplace, I decided to just go for an observation internship just to get an overview of how it works. Therefore, a 2 weeks internship was enough.
How did I get it?
Luckily, the procedure was very easy for me. The only thing that I had to do is send my CV to one of the managers that my brother Knows and worked with, and they accepted me.
How did I prepare?
First, once you know what company you are interning in, you have to research it, know the company’s history, its mission, its clients, and the maximum info you can get on it.
Next, you have to have a notebook or a laptop, because you should take notes, even if you don't have to write a report, you never know when you'll need those notes, and it's also nice to document your experience and look back at it.
Finally, you should prepare yourself for a short interview with one of the managers, because I had one that I was not planning on, but it went well. Managers usually ask about why did you choose your major, why did you get an internship and what are you expecting out of it.
What did I learn?
Since I got to spend time in each department (Minus the finance dep), I got to see how a company operates as a whole, and other random points such as:
Even if your internship is just an initiative, you should know what are your objectives or what you’re looking for exactly because you’re not going to only be asked about it, but it will make things more clear in your head
In addition, having a clear goal increases your self-confidence, and helps you ask questions.
Remember to make contacts; you never know when you are going to need help or recommendation, or even a job in that company.
While applying for a job, it’s better to look for companies who have the reputation of taking care of their employees, because it’s very important to feel satisfied with your job, otherwise, you won’t be as productive as you want.
when companies want to hire people, they look for humble, extroverted, social people who have the right technical skills of course.
Make sure to enjoy it before everything else.
That’s it for my first long text blog post, I thought it would be interesting to share my experience with you.
reblog it please if you find helpful. Good luck with life.
