How much of the continent you're building would be inhabitable?

much of it is inhabited at least part time - sections of the far north (in the kelim territories) are polar regions uninhabited by anyone from like, mainstream society, and a lot of the great desert can't maintain full-time settlements, though there are cities along the two major rivers.

the mountain range in the east has few settlements because most of it is just too difficult terrain to settle in - the only big ones are in the white river valley, which is actually a soverein nation, but there are small settlements from several of the coastal countries up as high as the treeline in places, and some towns mostly in the mining business on the other side

also large parts of the eyrinese marshes don't or can't have permanent settlements because of flooding. the eastern coast has the highest population density of any region because it's the most inhabitable.

do you think different species of animals can communicate with each other

ummmmm yes but not to any extent more than humans can probably? like we can clearly communicate with dogs u know but it's pretty limited. and i think they can probably communicate similarly depending on the animals
