WangXian and Gender
Ok I’ve been thinking about WangXian and gender and listen, this shit gives me Life.
Like, trans*masc Lan WangJi! YES PLEASE
For one, it doesn’t change anything about Chen Qing Ling canon - as it should! Because you know, trans* people just are what they are.
But secondly, it fucks up the hetero-normative uke/seme bullshit that determines people’s social roles by what they do with which kind of genitalia.
As for Wei WuXian, while I recognize that a lot of his experiences are very similar to that of trans* people, with the golden core swap literally altering his social role / gender in the cultivation world BUT the difference is that these changes are external and forced, rather than an expression of himself.
So, in my opinion, Wei WuXian’s experience is more similar to people who are inter* actually. I like to believe he is also non-binary, but that seems to be something he’d have to re-discover for himself. After all, his divergence has been weaponized against himself and the people he loves, so it would probably take some time to reclaim his own agency in that.
If nobody is going to write these convos between him and Lan WangJi, I will write it myself (threat).
