That wasn't very nice, nor was it true, but the words just slipped out. How else where you supposed to respond to a question that you, yourself didn't know how to answer? Or was it that he was simply uncomfortable with the question? Daniel wasn't good at hiding how he felt, his face said it all. In that moment, he had been scared. He hadn't been seeing the other, but instead a memory that he would rather forget.

A pang in his hands screamed for relief causing him to blink, slowly opening closed fists to reveal the bloody marks he had left across his hands.

He readied another arrow, aiming to hit exactly where the last three had, the bullseye. Daniel wasn’t good at a lot of things, but archery was on his very short list of talents. His fingers tightened, waiting for the other to pass before releasing; the arrow flying to hit its mark. Glancing over at the other, the couldn’t help but notice the tension in his brother’s shoulders. Another fight? Maybe, but that one usually came with bruises or blood. Another spat with their baby sister? He wouldn’t exactly bet money on it, but that was more likely.

          “---It’s not the same thing.” He had picked up smoking again for reasons only he knew. It was one thing when it was just the cigarettes, but even those he had been going through at lot more as of late. He was worrying people; he knew, but it couldn’t be helped. Jinx had briefly mentioned that she knew, but she had never really been one to pry, not directly at least. He knew she’d figure out what was bothering him sooner or later, and he’d have to answer for it. but like her, Daniel had gotten used to handling things by himself. 

          “---Shit, the last time I had a friend?” Their baby sister got hurt. More then that, his friendship literally ruined her life. No, he wasn’t about to let that happen again. He didn’t need anyone else; he had his siblings now. 

          “---Let’s jus’ say I don’ make good choices in that department...”

               “---What do ya want me to say?” Daniel had made a lot of bad decisions in his life; this wasn’t his first and it most certainly wouldn’t be his last. The problem is, he’d been alone for a very long time, meaning he hadn’t had to explain his actions for a very long time. He acted impulsively, reacted without thinking. Safe to say, his communication skills were... limited, to say the least.  “---The doc’ said he’d be walkin’ again in no time.”

          “---’m not.” Liar. How else could he explain the rush of anger and almost desperate need for a cigarette? The way he practically growled in irritation before excusing himself. A little green monster had made itself a home, and he knew it. What he didn’t know, was why? It wasn’t like they were dating or he had even given the other any indication that he liked him. Hell, he couldn’t even admit that to himself, never mind Morgan. 

          “---’guy jus’ rubbed me the wrong way, is all.” More like, he needed to calm down before he did something that got him into trouble.

          “—How about the truth?” His voice was harsh, slicing through the air like a razor as rage consumed him. He didn’t understand why he wasn’t allowed to see her. What had they done to her? If she really was safe then why the hell were they keeping her from him? She was his sister for fucks sake! He’d done everything asked of him. He’d atoned for every sin, proven himself time and time again, but still, nothing… 

                    “—She’s all I have left… please.” He was desperate now.

               “---I don’t know what ya want me to say; some asshole put my name under some code, big deal.” He paused, clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth, trying to keep his temper in check. Why the hell couldn’t she just leave well enough alone? It wasn’t any of her business and quite frankly, it was for her own good. The people he knew weren’t the sort of folks you’d wanna get mixed up with.

               “—Okay, but hear me out; what if, sometimes, we could be both.” Yes, he was already very much intoxicated and yes, he knew just how cheesy he sounded right about now, but did that make what he was saying any less true? Nope, not even a little bit. He wasn’t a happy person, not by a long shot, but he was happy with her.
