My thoughts on Inter-PoC solidarity
I stand in solidarity with other PoC because I refuse to stand for racial oppression.
Refusal to stand for racial oppression for me means that when it is of no threat to my physical life, and sometimes perhaps when it is, I feel the need to stand up against racism when it manifests itself.
I advocate for people of color who arenโt black both when they are and arenโt there, especially when they are being slandered for their race. Whether or not other people of color are anti-black, whether or not they do not care about my livelihood because Iโm black, I advocate for their liberation because I believe their liberation should not be conditional. Even people of color who uphold racism deserve liberation. After all, that racism was indoctrinated and their value as a person does not change when they contribute to my oppression.
I hope that people can come to see the objective pricelessness of my life, can understand that I objectively deserve to be liberated, and come to see how much I matter. In my experience, Iโve learned that people are quicker to come to those conclusions when they see me continuously and relentlessly advocate on their behalf. Not that I believe that I must work for the respect of others because I think that other people should treat me with respect regardless, just that people tend to notice how disrespectful they are to me when I treat them with respect.
I get bitter, and definitely hurt, when I meet anti-black PoC or witness antiblackness committed by PoC. But my values are such that I must advocate for their liberation. It is the most decent thing I can do, especially since I have learned to uphold their oppression as well, and likely uphold racism against them even as I try to unlearn.
