Ibn al-Qayyim raḥimahullāh said :
"If we were able to uncover the wisdom of Allah embedded in His creation and His decrees, we would find not merely hundreds, but thousands of wisdoms. Yet our intellects are extremely limited, our knowledge is very little, and the knowledge of all created beings is insignificant when compared to the knowledge of Allah — just as the light of a lamp becomes meaningless beneath the radiance of the sun. Even this is only an illustration ; the reality is far greater than what this comparison can convey."
[Shifā’ al-‘Alīl fī Masā’il al-Qaḍā’ wa al-Qadar wa al-Ḥikmah wa al-Ta‘līl (3/1083), 2nd edition, Dār al-Ṣumai‘ī, 1434 AH / 2013H]
Covering is the beauty
Bakr ibn ‘Abdullāh al-Muzanī (رحمه الله) said:
رَحِمَ اللَّهُ عَبْدًا رَزَقَهُ اللَّهُ قُوَّةً فَأَعْمَلَ لِنَفْسِهِ فِي طَاعَةِ اللَّهِ، أَوْ قَصَرَ بِهِ ضَعْفٌ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْ فِي مَعَاصِي اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
“May Allah have mercy on a servant whom Allah has blessed with strength, so he uses it in obedience to Allah; or if weakness prevents him from doing much, he does not use it in disobedience to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.”
Al-Zuhd by Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (1833)
Al Ḥasan Al Baṣri (رحمه الله) said,
يا ابن آدم! كيف يرق قلبك وإنما همتك في آخر السورة
O son of Adam, how can your heart be softened when your only concern is reaching the end of your surah?
[الخلاصة في تدبر القرآن الكريم]
They mentioned humility in the presence of al-Ḥasan al-Basri while he remained silent. When they spoke at length about it, he said to them:
“I see that you have spoken a lot about humility.”
They asked:
“What is humility, O Abū Saʿīd?”
He replied:
‘That a person leaves his home and does not meet a single Muslim except that he believes that the other is better than him.’
