🟢 Chris had the healthiest and most normal upbringing out of the trio (that is before the Spencer Mansion Incident). He has an idea of what “normal” is and he would probably be the most approachable guy out of the trio - outside his soldier-side and bulky build. He is a pretty sociable guy (as seen in Vendetta); he is easy to introduce to your parents and friends.
🟢 Chris is foremost a caretaker and a mentor, before he is a captain. He believes in the potentials of those around them and he will always be there to help them achieve their goals. He will talk you through it (in more ways than one 😏), he will be your biggest supporter during your progression and your confidant during your lowest times. He is honestly like a teddy bear (the huge Costco one 🧸) that you could always be your true self with.
🟢 Chris is a self proclaimed realist (RE5). He is a no beating-around-the-bush type of guy. He is direct with his approach and calls bullshit as he sees it, but in a contained and professional way. He won’t hide anything from you (we are not going to talk about RE8 Chris, because bae was having a PTSD moment along with bad writing for the sake of the plot). Like the others in the trio, Chris will not hesitate to sacrifice himself for you: in a relationship, I do see him making the tough calls for you in moments when “the first one to speak looses” scenario. As much as he loves you, he also understands that sometimes true love also means to let you go…because it is the safest outcome. When he breaks it off with you, it is DONE. He will make sure that is the END, so you could go on with your life. It’s tough love, but it is his way of protecting you from things that should only be a part of his world. You will never have to worry about breaking his heart, because he will break his own heart for you and spare you from the guilt that he will just add to his growing collection.
🔴 He could be impatient and have a temper, but it is never directed at you although sometimes it could come off that way. Although he doesn’t have a tendency to hide things from you, he doesn’t tell you everything right away because he needs time to process it. As his partner, you will need to learn how to read him: when to approach him and when to give him his space. It would be a hard balance to perfect and sometimes one wrong timing could trigger the worst out of him, however this is what commitment is…to be there for him through better or worse.
🔴 Chris is bound by a sense of duty, and suffers from survivors guilt: responsibility inflation. His life course is always straight, he stands for justice and the extermination of bio weapons. Unfortunately, this means that Chris is both unable and unwilling to accommodate to you. For the smaller things, like what to have for dinner and what movie to watch, he will always let you have your way. However, when it comes to the bigger picture, he is unwavering and will make it clear that there are things he will never compromise on. His world is not for the average person and it is definitely not for the weak-willed. Unfortunately, it is highly likely that a relationship with him will not last because he is unable to walk away from his duty…therefore he could only walk away from you.
🔴 Let’s just say that you accept Chris for everything that he is and is bounded to, but your next roadblock would be the unpredictability and instability of your life with him. I will not spend time discussing the dangers of what he does because that is a given with all of these men. As we had touched on before, Chris is unwilling to compromise - this will mean that Chris’ loyalty will always be to a cause and never to an organization. In RE8, we seen Chris go rogue from BSAA without hesitation - this means that you will also be expected to relocate and completely change your way of life in the event that you need to go into hiding due to his sudden defections. In order for a relationship with him to work and last, you have to go with the beat of Chris’ drums.
Leon the Sex Kennedy
🟢 The RE Series’ Ladies Man, his creation (particularly for RE9) is basically how Disney’s Flynn Rider was created: the executives put all the ladies in a room and asked them what were the traits that made a man fvckable lovable. He is the official embodiment of what women (and the gays 🏳️🌈) want to see in a #MAN. I really don’t know how much more to elaborate with this one. From appearance to his personality, Leon is well loved by everyone. It is also a plus that this man is an unashamed metrosexual, you won’t have to worry about touching dry leather skin or kissing cracked lips (probably also keeps up with trimming the grass below as well). And he is committed when he sets his heart on something, this man has had the same hairstyle for his entire appearance in the series.
🟠 Ok, all jokes aside, I believe what makes Leon desirable is both a Pro 🟢 and a Con 🔴.
🟠 His kindness
Appearances aside, it was his kindness and attention to details that drew you to him. This man will observe and make notes on your subtle actions and preferences. Leon is best known for his compassion and humanity even though he is often in positions where it is a luxury that he could not afford. We seen how he believes in the best of everyone despite what sides they originally stood on (his interactions with JD and “Buddy” in Damnation). Although he knows it is highly unlikely, he still tries his best to change the narrative - as seen in RE6’s Tall Oaks outbreak where Leon is seen reliving his Raccoon City trauma by attempting to save everyone again despite knowing the outcome from Sept 30th, 1998. Kindness is an endearing trait of his, until you realize just how much kindness is a double edged sword. It is because Leon leaves room for people in his heart, that’s how he gets himself hurt - either through Krauser’s RE4 betrayal or his inability throughout his life to save everyone he had promised to save. At the end of the day, when reality hits, his kindness hurts him. Each failure of his becomes another scar on his psyche that he must carry until his time comes.
🟠 His protective nature
Leon is extremely protective, sometimes perhaps too protective that he takes the burden for everything just to spare you from any discomfort. While you are able to live a carefree life, but it is at the cost of his own personal sacrifice. In his mind, it might be too late for him to experience a normal life, but he wants you to enjoy everything that he had lost the opportunity for. While you are able to live comfortably, you will be unaware of the things that Leon has to go through and to keep buried in his mind in order to provide this life take for you. The worst side to his protectiveness is Leon’s refusal to communicate with you about the truth; he keeps things bottled up until he spirals out and needs to hit the bottles himself. Sometimes, it’s not even because he refuses to share the details with you, it is because he can’t due to its confidential nature. Unfortunately, Leon equates silence to protection which renders your relationship to be filled with awkward gaps of silence which leads to misunderstandings.
🟠 His past
Perhaps the biggest challenge in your relationship with Leon. As discussed above, Leon prefers silence when things get difficult and when things get too complicated to explain. Leon lets his past define him and what’s worse is that he lets it dictate his life; he lives in the trauma of everything that’s happened and the part he played in all of it (covering up government corruption in Infinite Darkness). His past is a complex web of mysteries that you will never be able to understand. However, that mysterious side is what also makes him so charmingly alluring. You get attracted to the man with a past, thinking that you will build a future with him…however you don’t realize that this man is a walking hourglass (the sand timer thing ⏳, not his body shape 🤦♀️) because he has no future. With Leon, you are not privy to his past and the only certainty of his future is its uncertainty - it is only his “present” that truly belongs to the both of you.
Carlos Oliveira
🟢 Unlike Leon, he is forward with his emotions. Unlike Chris, Carlos lives in the moment will say what comes to his mind with no filter. With him, your relationship is forever passionate because it is unrestricted and real. Carlos is very direct with his approach so there will be no mixed signals between the two of you. He is unbashful; he announces his love for you in both the dirtiest of talks and the most mind-blowing intimate moments. He is also protective of you to the point that he sees every opportunity as an act of service to you; he is the “I know you are capable of doing this, but let me do it for you”. When you are loved by Carlos, it is the experience of a lifetime.
🟠 Carlos knows what he likes - what he prefers, he has his own comfort zones which sometimes may make him come across as stubborn. Carlos grew up in hardship and had undergone many difficult circumstances to carve him into the person he is now. These experiences make or break a person, and with Carlos with thicker skin; it left him confident with his own abilities as well as setting his boundaries. As seen in RE3, Carlos has no hesitation when going against the orders of his superiors - he does whatever he believes is the right thing to do. Like Chris, Carlos could be uncompromising in certain areas. Unlike Chris, he wouldn’t give you an explanation or reason with you - it would just be a simple “nope” and that’s the end of the discussion. He gets frustrated, but he didn’t have Chris’ luxury of undergoing higher education to better articulate himself. (*I’m not saying Carlos is uneducated or dumb, I am simply implying that Carlos was less privileged than Chris since birth and had to tackle the challenge of survival before everything else. Life for Carlos was about survival.).
🔴 Like all the men before him ⬆️, Carlos isn’t without his own demons from his past. He was born into chaos and it was the only world he’s known and thrived in; the official lore writes that he was a child soldier who was forced into guerrilla warfare in a impoverished region in South America. Later, in exchange for his life, he had no choice (except death) to join the “entity of evil” Umbrella’s Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (U.B.C.S.) - a private military force comprised of other convicted war criminals and mercenaries. There’s also unconfirmed lore that Carlos has undergone plastic surgery after his recruitment into Umbrella in order to hide from his past (and then again after the events of RE3 to hide from the government and remaining Umbrella operatives). Everything above would be the things that he would keep hidden and buried under his charming persona, there is no way he would share these with you without the fear of scaring you away or endangering you because you knew too much. There will always be something he keeps from you, and eventually it will become a ridge in your relationship. And maybe, he suddenly disappears from your life one day and that will be the last you ever see or hear from him.

Other than Ethan Winters, Albert Wesker, and William Birkin who have canon evidence that they fvcked, I KNOW Chris fvcked as well (and I’m willing to die on that hill). He was in the military since he was 18 and I know the hormones were still peaking. As someone who have friends in the military, I been told that the culture is like the Olympics except people carry guns in more ways than one…

The softness of these colours reminds him why he is fighting this lifelong war for…to protect the innocent from being tainted by terrors of bioterrorism.

I honestly feel like he’s going to automatically assume it’s him, he is the one who messed up. He’s not going to think if it’s a misunderstanding or miscommunication, his automatic response is to think that the issue is HIM.
I feel like he’s is a different person when he comes home. Not different as in behaving differently, but a type of different where he shuts off the parts of his brain that has been overworking since the DSO gave him the case. He becomes “simpler”. He’s tired and burnt out, he’s just going to nod and agree - almost mechanically - and then eventually the issue will work itself out. No more thinking, he just wants to zone out.
He doesn’t do this because he doesn’t care. I think his tendency to skip the “argument” part is due to his internalized self-deprecation. He thinks it’s his fault because he is not good enough. He wasn’t strong enough to save those civilians in Raccoon City despite being a cop. He was a pushover and is now essentially the government’s expendable work mutt. He wasn’t strong enough to save Louis (and many others who died in front of him). He wasn’t brave enough to give Claire the USB to reveal all the shady dealings of the government. He tends to focus on the things that went wrong rather than the things he accomplished. In the end, to him, everything went wrong because of HIM.
When it comes to his significant other being upset with him, I really don’t see him asking them what’s wrong. I see him automatically assuming that he messed up, again. He does apologize even if he doesn’t know what he is apologizing for. This man lives his life to serve others even if it is at the expense of himself. He sees himself as a punching bag; he could take the hits if it means the other person will feel better.
I hate this for him. In my heart, I feel like the lack of communication is really going to be an issue in any relationship of his 😔
