KITTY: I don’t know why I ever thought we could have a conversation like that in a campus bar on a Saturday and not be seen. Deeply stupid.
KITTY: I blame you, tbh, nothing good comes from sad drinking alone.

Tessa had been on a somewhat wreckless bender since the storm, packing in as much numbing behaviour as she could. Between the drinking and meaningless hookups, she was doing just about anything she could to forget that she had embarrassingly shared feelings with her best friend, only for him to reinforce her gut feeling that it was all one sided. A night out with friends seemed like a good idea to take her mind off of everything - that was until she caught sight of the very person she had successfully managed to avoid until now. She immediately felt her cheeks warm, if only out of embarrassment, but it was the frustration in her that allowed her feet to carry her towards him. After giving herself some time to reflect on it, she could see why Ryder reacted the way he did. That didn’t mean knowing things were one sided hurt any less. “So are we going to keep avoiding each other, pretend I didn’t embarrass myself with my feelings, or talk about it? I don’t know if I like any of those options, so I’m banking on you coming up with something better.”

KITTY: I am so serious, Lynn, if you tank my grade on this assignment, I will destroy you in more ways than one.

Who: @ryderxaeron Where: Ryder’s House
“RJ...I’m gonna need you to give me the floor here for a minute, alright?” Tessa set the box of pizza she had come in with onto the kitchen counter, a pleading glance casted in Ryder’s direction. She knew that while her best friend was just as stubborn as she was, he was much more forgiving than she would have been in most situations. She could only hope that he would extend that forgiving nature to her after her absence and radio silence these past few weeks. “But first...fuck it.” Without hesitation, Tessa wrapped her arms around his torso, squeezing his body close to hers and lingering there for a few moments before stepping back. “I know I’ve been kinda shit the past few weeks, but I’ve got a good reason for not showing up to the party, so hopefully you’ll put me back into your number one spot. And if it doesn’t work I got you a pizza...well us a pizza because I haven’t eaten yet, but still...” A coy grin took to her lips as she reached out to rub his arm gently. “I broke up with Jacob that night...so you should probably be happy about that since you two were such big fans of each other.” She didn’t want to expand further; not when her reasoning for cutting Jacob loose after two years had to do with what she considered his wrongly placed obsession with Tessa and Ryder’s friendship. In her mind it was unwarranted paranoia surrounding something that didn’t exist.
Where: Mini Golf Who: @ryderxaeron
For the past two months, things with Ryder had been a mess. Until they weren’t. There was still a slight guilt that occasionally weighed on her for the way she had declared her feelings for him when she had thought she had lost him, but for their sake, she wanted to focus on moving forward with what they had just begun to build between them rather than dwell on what she could’ve done differently. Tessa had insisted on planning their first date, the prospect of it actually happening after so many years of pent up feelings exciting her probably more than it should have. With more time spent at his place, she had noticed how busy he had been lately, and just wanted to plan a day that would free him of any stress or responsibilities that had been keeping him that way. Plus, she had of course wanted whatever time she could get with him to build on what felt like a good thing. “Thanks for comforting me through my first tattoo and everything, but you know I’m going to have to kick your ass, right?” Anyone who had played a round of mini golf with her knew that she lacked whatever skill it took to ‘kick ass’ in the activity, but it wasn’t in her not to talk smack. A kiss was pressed to his jaw before she dropped her hand from his and set her golf ball down at the start of the first hole. Glancing up at him, she offered a smile. “As fun as this day out has been, I’m thinking we should cancel our fancy dinner reservations at Darla’s and do dinner at home. Winner picks what take out we’re getting. Now watch me wipe the Astroturf with you.” With that she made her first shot, not the worst, but certainly not one that warranted her cockiness.
Who: @ryderxaeron Where: Olympus Community Center When: 11pm
Perhaps it was the fear and overwhelming nature of just about everyone in town being present in the community center. Or the sinking pit feeling in her stomach as she searched and searched for Ryder through packed hallways without any luck. There was also the knowledge that he would do just about anything for the club and people he cared about, even if it meant putting himself in danger. To be fair, she had spent most of her time helping out with keeping the younger kids occupied, but that didn’t keep her mind from wandering and inducing a sense of worry. It was a mess of thoughts from the moment she finally laid eyes on him that had her weaving through crowds until she finally stood in front of him, a hand resting on either side of his face as she pressed an almost desperate kiss to his lips. It was as though she had no control over her body, her heightened emotions the cumulation of feelings swept under the rug that had her lingering for moments too long until she finally let her hands smooth over the sides of his neck until they were resting on his shoulders.
“Haven’t been able to find you all night, Ry...scared me a little bit.” She simply shrugged as though she hadn’t just kissed him after two years without any sort of intimacy between them. Without another word she pulled him into a hug, once again allowing herself a few moments too long before pulling back to look at him. “You’re not allowed to do anything stupidly heroic tonight, okay?” Her fear may not have directly been related to the hurricane, but it sure as hell reflected all of the fears she had when it came to the danger he put himself in with the club.
