  Eurybia instantly smiled at the feeling of Crius’s lips against her skin. He was quite the gentleman in her presence, charming and debonair. She wasn’t used to the attention; however, like him, she desired a partner and mate worthy of her. How could she reject the suitor her parents selected for her? Crius was a respected and mighty titan, pillar of the south and shared her domain of constellations. His ambition was strong, perhaps growing every day. They were a seemingly perfect match and from the few meetings they were allowed before their wedding, she felt that they could truly fall in love with each other.

  And she was certainly starting to feel something for him. 

  “You flatter me, Crius.” Eurybia replied with a coy smile. “But what is power when you have no one to share it with?” She asked him, tilting her head slightly. “You have as much ambition as I do and we can build so much together. Without limits.” She paused, looking away from him before her sight returned to the titan. 

  “Is it wrong that I feel so impatient for our wedding?”

  With Crius still before her, Rhea kept her fists balled up so tightly in her palms that she felt her nails digging into her skin. The sensation would have leave a mortal stinging in pain but she was too enraged to even think about the discomfort. She wasn’t afraid to punch him again or even worse if the situation called for it; the titaness was far from keeping her normal calm composure. The long years of war made her tense and volatile whenever she left her children for she knew she still had to act strong and stable for them but she grew tired. 

  And here Crius was: an easy target for the agitated queen.

  “I don’t need a specific reason anymore, Crius. You made it clear that we became enemies the day you promised your allegiance to Cronus. We’re not kids anymore, fighting just for fun. This is war.”

  “Tell me and do so honestly, Crius,” Clymene began as her eyes narrowed at her brother in-law, “do you really think we still have a chance at winning? I lost Menoetius on the promise that this war would be short with little causalities yet it’s been almost six years. I feel cheated and lied to.”

  Rhea’s honey brown eyes scowled at her brother as he took a condescending tone with her. She typically ignored his brand of entitlement and calculating judgements now that they were adults. She tried to turn his attitude around with Theia’s help but their little brother proved an impossible case. But when it came to Cronus, she took anything involving him to heart. She protected him, fashioning herself a guard over her king. Her relationship and its intimate details were solely between her and Cronus but now that Hestia, Demeter, Hera and Hades were gone, keeping their marriage behind closed doors was no longer an option.    

  Everyone had to insert their opinion, tell Rhea Cronus’s actions were already planned. Just waiting for the spark to light the match. How could she believe that when he adored their daughters? He was anxious at first when she revealed her first pregnancy but he eased into fatherhood. Years ago, she knew she made the right decision about becoming the mother of Cronus’s children. It was in the looks he gave Hestia, the gentle way he held her in his arms. He loved her...why couldn’t he do the same with the others?

  “No. Even you seen him with Hestia and Demeter. Did he seem like a father who would betray his daughters? He’s lost. He will come back to me and free our children. He has to.” Rhea affirmed, not even fully committing to her words. “Now, if you have nothing to offer me but shaming rhetoric and heartless words, leave. Or I will have you forcibly removed from my home. Brother or not.” She continued, her tone pointed and unflinching. She didn’t want to be a cruel and unemotional sister, but as queen, she couldn’t listen to anyone else. She wanted to be left alone.

  Eurybia wanted to trust her husband’s word as she always did but this time, her worries were clouding her automatic faith in the titan. All she knew was peace and despite Gaia being a distant mother, Thalassa proved herself a worthy matriarch for the children of the sea and earth when she married Pontus. The promise of possessing the sea and becoming so hung over her head as her siblings chose different paths. Eventually, Crius would become Eurybia’s unexpectedly. A path that could very well to war.

  “It’s not as simple as you make it sound, Crius.” Eurybia remarked with a hesitant sigh. “Styx is considering siding with Rhea and Cronus’s children, bringing our grandchildren with her. Pallas may surely follow her. And Perses and Astraeus? I don’t want our family separated because of this,” She continued, hard to ignore the concern in her voice. She reached out and grabbed her husband’s hand so she could place it upon her chest. The look of distress erased from her face, replaced by fierce determination. She wouldn’t settle for the family they both created being torn apart.

  “We won’t lose each other nor our family. We won’t let that happen,” Eurybia promised him as she rose his hands to her lips. She pressed a kiss to his knuckles and looked at him with utter devotion.

"She's indeed healthy and well loved," Rhea observed with a chuckle after she examined baby Cleora, hovering over her. But then she winced as her niece grabbed her nose and squeezed hard. A strong giggle left the tiny titaness and Rhea shook her head playfully at her niece. She carefully removed the tiny hand and lifted her head so she could straighten her posture. Rhea made a point to check on her siblings’ children and their development, being ever so the attentive aunt and Mother of the Gods. "She'll certainly be a formidable titaness, Crius. She has quite the grip. Almost as strong as Menoetius’s. He had too much fun pulling on your beard...I do hope your daughter is gentler with you.” She laughed softly again. 

  Rhea took Cleora into her hands and settled her niece against her hip, smiling down at her before facing her brother. One could say Rhea self-indulged in the presence of babies and children; however, she was a childless mother for decades. She deserved to enjoy extended periods of time with the younglings of their pantheon. “How have you been faring, brother? Eurybia seemed in good spirits, leaving you with Cleora.” She remarked. “Can I say I’m proud of you being proactive with Cleora without a smirk or roll the eyes?”

  Gentle hands settled themselves upon Crius’s shoulders as Eurybia began to massage him to try to relax her husband. He spent long days on Othrys and she knew his siblings could annoy him to no end. She accommodated to his needs to make him comfortable and decompress whenever he came back to their Southern palace. It was her duty and she didn’t want to add to already stressful day. Night was upon them and it would belong to them. 

  “You’re back home with me. You don’t have to think about anything else. I’ll make sure of it.” Soft lips brushed themselves against his neck before she peppered a couple of kisses there. “The boys are asleep. If you still need to get your mind off things, I’m all yours, my Great Lord.” She suggested to him as she barely lifted her lips from his skin.

  It had been a couple of months since Eurybia had last seen her husband and while they both agreed to a divorce, the process itself was going allowing quite slowly. They would need the approval of both Gaia and Pontus who arranged their marriage. She avoided meeting him again to settle their divorce, afraid of his reaction to what transpired that night they spent together. She tried to hide her pregnancy the best she could with loose dresses and hiding herself from the outside world. Only Gaia and her sons knew but she couldn’t hide her pregnancy from Crius forever. 

  At first Eurybia believed he didn’t need to know especially when they would be divorcing. A couple months in her pregnancy, discovering she was carrying a girl made her concerned even more. Crius believed only sons were worthy enough to behold his legacy so keeping her a secret and away from him seemed to be the safe option. He could potentially treat their daughter poorly, make her feel unwanted and inadequate. Maybe even worse than how he treated his own wife. Ultimately, Eurybia knew hiding their child from Crius would anger him even more. Besides, their daughter deserved to have her father in her life. Perhaps a daughter could soften his strict heart, maybe even be the father their sons deserved. And maybe she could even distract him from plotting against the Olympians and keep him busy with a child to take all of his attention.  

  Eurybia stood outside the door, taking a deep breath for strength. After she exhaled, she wrapped her hand around the door handle and opened the door to let herself in Crius’s office. She found him sitting in his chair behind his large desk with a pensive look on his face. She quickly stood behind the chair she sat in last time to hide her growing stomach. While still small, it was obvious she wasn’t the same size when they last saw other. 

  “You and I have to talk...now.” Eurybia demanded of him.
