giving tours to remote strangers had, more or less, become part of the job description. during his days uninvolved with the students -- the years he spent organizing charlesās meetings and the like -- touring was off the table, somewhat refreshing. time away from anyoneās residual emotions, able to think about himself, his fucked home life, and not become as overwhelmed as he could have been. but since taking the professorial job ? better pay, a quicker in if eartha were to show signs of a mutation... he was back to his counselor roots, involved in the touring of prospective students and their parents.
however, will was a different story. with a built-in past and a certain mutual understanding -- single fathers who were just trying to make it through the day as they pined after who they could no longer have ( nicholas, get in here ! ) -- he would have offered him a tour at no request. at no obligation. so what was this, then ? a simple formality ?
spotting the man at the gates, he jogged over, still making sure to step on the cracks, and offered a wave. he opened the gates up and gestured for the other man to enter, plant his feet on the grand campus.Ā ā hey, will ! ā he rested his hands on his knees, catching his breath from the very brief jog. man, was he gonna make his daughter an orphan ? once he caught his breath, he looked to will, then the building. ā so, you have two choices: i can give you the official tour, or the friends and family. ā ( such a tour not existing, of course... )
