THE VOICE WAS MUFFLED. Alfred could barely make it out. And yet, it was a voice he would recognize anywhere, a voice that had both tormented and soothed him, a voice he could NEVER FORGET.

But the owner of the voice was the only thing clear in this situation. Nothing else had registered in his mind yet. His eyes, previously closed, slowly began to open; his muscles began to twitch as he blinked, taking in the world around him. CONFUSION filled Alfred’s eyes as he managed to speak, his words coming out slightly slurred.

“WHAT HAPPENED?”

where this guilt was coming from, beocca had no idea. uhtred usually owned his actions and his words, never going back on them. his ego was too big to feel guilty — at least, too big to show it. but beocca had known uhtred since he was a boy. it was pointless for them to hide things from each other anymore; they knew each other too well. “you are not a bad person.” beocca reached through the bars of the cell, placing a hand on the taller man’s shoulders. “do not say such things, uhtred. you are a good person who has had bad things happen to him. you made a mistake, a simple mistake, but not one that cannot be fixed. but do not doubt for one minute that you are a good man. i know it, god knows it… your gods know it.”

kate was surprised really. surprised that her memory hadn’t failed her for once. ever since she arrived in washington, it felt like bits and pieces had been missing. it was hard to remember most of high school which was frustrating considering she had only graduated 4 years ago. it was almost as if something had been blocking parts of her memory entirely which led her to feel insecure and even doubt things she remembered. “it sounds interesting, i’m in.” she spoke with a firm nod. “can’t say i’ve ever swam in a money bin before.”

“sorry i vanished.” he tells her, softly as he moves into the room. “agent christopher wanted help with some things off base.” things that even wyatt probably had too much of a conscience to help with. he looks tired and needs a shave, but he gives ophelia a warm smile, “i missed you.” he whispers.
