âłâ @beoccaââ âyouâre not alone anymore. you got me.â
Uhtred was looking down, feeling the weight of the world on his shoulders and not having to show any pain from all that had been reflected. He had lost two people he cared about, in a single day. Beocca had forced him to be at home, he had been there for days (because he wouldnât let him go to the bar as he had been before). He was sitting in the chair in front of the table, playing with the food but not eating with a blank stare. His gaze lifted when he heard it and he smiled slightly, very slight almost not noticeable. âââI know and I thank youâ he was aware of it.
it wasnât easy to lose someone. beocca had experienced it many times before; however, self-destruction was never the answer. the best thing to do was to have faith in god and let him carry the burden. he knew better than to suggest that to uhtred, though. so, instead, he placed a hand on the manâs back, rubbing it in a soothing manner. âyou need not thank me, uhtred. you would do the same for me.â
âłâ @beoccaâ âTheyâd kill you on the spot.â
âââDo you have a better plan?â he asked as he listened to him, he was aware of the great risk involved but doubted there was a better way they could get out of there. They were surrounded⊠the best thing to do was to burn the place down, cause a distraction so they could get out of there. Not to mention that Uhtred liked to burn things and this was no exception, he watched Finan in the distance to tell them to do it.
well, no, not at the moment. but still! beocca couldnât just stand by and watch as uhtred continued to recklessly risk his life. âjust⊠give me a moment to think first!â he exclaimed frustratedly, rubbing a hand over his face in frustration. âdonât do anything stupid.â
âłâ @beoccaâ âIâve always believed in you.â
âââIs it true or are you just saying that so I donât feel bad?â she joked when she heard Beocca, it was fun to talk to him and many times teasing him, especially when she was more of a child to be able to escape from him but this time she had no intention of doing so, at least she was bored but she was with him due to her father as always being away on a trip. Her brothers were outside chopping wood and she, as always because she was a woman, had to cook, she hated that. âTell me, how can I make my father believe in me too? IâŠâ she was silent, it was maybe a bad idea but she needed advice from the person who had known her father forever. âI want to be freeâ she mentioned raising her eyes towards him.
beocca would always treat uhtredâs kids like his own. well, maybe more like a grandfather than a father. he was growing older; he could feel it, but he was unaffected by it. he was strong; he had god inside of him. âit is true, of course,â the priest replied with a smile, ruffling her hair lightly. stiorra knew he loved her; heâd expressed it many times. uhtred was an amazing father, and beocca couldnât be more proud. his smile faded slightly at the question though, and he let out a soft sigh. âi have known your father since he was a boy â younger than you, even,â he answered, looking her in the eyes. âand one thing that i know about him is that he is fiercely protective over those he loves. perhaps you feel trapped because you feel that he does not give you a chance, butâŠâ he bent down to her eye level. uhtred was probably going to yell at him for this, but so be it. âhe is scared. he is scared that you will become an amazing warrior and die an honorable death. he does not fear his own death⊠that is a paganâs view, is it not? but he does fear the deaths of those he loves, including you.â

@xlittleprinccss asked: â°â° HURT â±â± from Uhtred
how could beocca have allowed this to happen? if it was in his power, he would die before he let uhtred get hurt. unfortunately, that was godâs power, not beoccaâs. âhow dare you?â he glared down at the man. the battle was over, but uhtred had injured himself and nearly died for his protection. âi have godâs protection. i do not need yours.â he knelt down, pressing his hands against uhtredâs wound. âkeep your eyes open, you idiot.â
@xlittleprinccss asked: " i-i didn't mean for any of this to happen... " from Uhtred (about Alfred lol) đ
it was too complicated. there were too many mixed emotions. on the one hand, beocca loved alfred and uhtred with all of his heart, and he was glad there was no longer tension between them. on the other hand, it was sinful. beocca had taught alfred a long time ago to resist his temptations; heâd thought the kingâs infidelity had ended when heâd been crowned. apparently not.
it didnât matter that their religions conflicted; beocca, a christian priest, had married thyra, a pagan, and he would love her no matter what. his only concern was that alfred was straying from godâs will. it would be different if he were not married, and not the king. still, if they were happy together, did it matter?
of course it did. but there was no good way to put that all into words, so beocca simply sighed and nodded. âi am sure it came as a surprise. you know i love you both; i always will. as long as you are happy, i see no issue.â it wasnât entirely true, but it was the best response beocca could come up with in such a short time.
@xlittleprinccss asked: " please... please, help me. " from thyra
she had been through so much. she had been locked in a cell for years; it was clear she was damaged, but beocca knew that he could help her. she was asking for it, and that was the first step. he looked down upon her, not wishing to scare her but daring to take a step forwards nonetheless. âtell me how to help,â he said softly, keeping his hands clasped together at his chest so she knew he wasnât going to hurt her. âtell me what i can do, and i shall do it. you do not have to hurt anymore.â
beoccaâ:
âyou know i will.â beocca would do absolutely anything for uhtredâs children, but he didnât want the man to think that he was going to be executed. alfred was smarter than that. heâd expressed it to beocca many times â alfred needed uhtred, whether he liked it or not. âi know it is hard for you, uhtred, but try to have faith. believe in your gods. trust in your destiny.â
There was one thing Uhtred feared more than death itself in that way, and that was that his children and he would be damned forever in Wessex. He needed to know what Alfred would ask for in return, last time he had made him swear to his service until the day he died, Uhtred was not willing to sacrifice anything else. He needed to think of something and fast, he knew he could manage to escape but not with his children. âYou will not kill me, Beocca. He needs me, if he comes to do so he knows that no one will be able to protect Wessex like meâ they both knew that much. He looked him straight in the eye, letting out a sigh. âI need what I want is not to have a life tied to Wessexâ he whispered without taking his eyes off of him.
so uhtred knew it too. beocca shouldnât have been surprised; uhtred was pretty good at reading people. besides, it wasnât like beocca could ever keep secrets from him. the whole thing with thyra⊠he had kept that a secret for about a day before heâd caved in. uhtred had probably already known, anyway. that was irrelevant, though. right now, all that mattered was getting uhtred out of here. âhe needs you alive. but he doesnât need you running around causing any more chaos, killing any more priests. those are his thoughts, not mine.â beocca knew he had to clarify that. he sighed once more. âbut you are tied to wessex. you tied yourself when you came here for the first time to take back bebbanburg. i am sorry, but wessex is a part of your path now.â
beoccaâ:
he didnât know what exactly would come next, but he didnât need to know. he had faith that it would all turn out okay. beocca let out a soft sigh and shook his head. âi shall speak to alfred. he will come to his senses and realize that he needs you. i am sure odda and aethelflaed would agree⊠we shall present it to him at his witan.â he removed his hand, but he didnât move his gaze from uhtredâs eyes. âyou have my word that i will do everything in my power to let you out.â
His gaze didnât leave Beoccaâs, he knew he was trying to help him but he couldnât help but feel that maybe he didnât deserve that help. He knew for a fact that he would be asked for a thousand things in return or punishment. However, there was something that was more on his mind. âBeocca, I need you to promise me that you will take care of my children, like you have always taken care of meâ he didnât know what was in store for him and he didnât think that was his destiny, however, he wasnât going to let anything happen to them. He didnât want them to pay the price. âThank youâ Uhtred had lost control, he had attacked a priest because he had provoked him and he knew he was sent by Ăthelred, he had fallen into his trap.
âyou know i will.â beocca would do absolutely anything for uhtredâs children, but he didnât want the man to think that he was going to be executed. alfred was smarter than that. heâd expressed it to beocca many times â alfred needed uhtred, whether he liked it or not. âi know it is hard for you, uhtred, but try to have faith. believe in your gods. trust in your destiny.â
beoccaâ:
@xlittleprinccss asked: â iâm a bad person. â from Uhtred
where this guilt was coming from, beocca had no idea. uhtred usually owned his actions and his words, never going back on them. his ego was too big to feel guilty â at least, too big to show it. but beocca had known uhtred since he was a boy. it was pointless for them to hide things from each other anymore; they knew each other too well. âyou are not a bad person.â beocca reached through the bars of the cell, placing a hand on the taller manâs shoulders. âdo not say such things, uhtred. you are a good person who has had bad things happen to him. you made a mistake, a simple mistake, but not one that cannot be fixed. but do not doubt for one minute that you are a good man. i know it, god knows it⊠your gods know it.â
Did he regret what he had done? No, he never really did. He had always faithfully believed that it was his destiny and every decision he made that brought him to that point but this time, something had been different. Had he really crossed the line? He questioned it for a second, his despair had been⊠huge. He had no choice, and yet he knew it would have consequences. His gaze remained on Beocca as he heard him let out a slight sigh. âAnd how am I going to fix what I did? I have no regrets Beoccaâ his gaze went to him. why had the gods led him to that? It was painful and yet he kept questioning himself on what other people might pay for what he had done.
he didnât know what exactly would come next, but he didnât need to know. he had faith that it would all turn out okay. beocca let out a soft sigh and shook his head. âi shall speak to alfred. he will come to his senses and realize that he needs you. i am sure odda and aethelflaed would agree⊠we shall present it to him at his witan.â he removed his hand, but he didnât move his gaze from uhtredâs eyes. âyou have my word that i will do everything in my power to let you out.â
