Clearly, Cam had some sort of death wish. That was really the only explanation for why he was currently headed in the direction of his ex-girlfriend’s house. But he’d bought a birthday gift for her literally back in August at the mall because he was probably the best boyfriend in Lima. Well, formerly the best boyfriend. Now, he was just an ex-boyfriend who wanted to get rid of a book he was never going to read. He should’ve put it with all the stuff of hers that he’d given her sister almost a month and a half ago, but at the time, he wasn’t even sure if he’d wanted to give it to her. He had tried to return it, but there was some sort of thirty-day policy that he hadn’t cared enough to listen to when he bought the book in the first place. It wasn’t like he could have predicted that his girlfriend would enjoy making out with Winnie Karofsky more than she enjoyed being with him. He didn’t think that they would’ve been broken up when her birthday was finally rolling around, but apparently, life had other plans. He was the last person she wanted to see, and he was very much aware of that. It wasn’t like he really wanted to see her all that much either, but she wasn’t at the bottom of his list anymore. He let out a small sigh as he pulled up to her house, trying his hardest to ignore the pit in his stomach. He figured this was probably going to go a couple ways. Either she wasn’t going to be home and he’d get verbally assaulted with the word “like” by Ivy, or he’d get a door slammed in his face. Either way, none of it sounded like a good time. He made his way up to her front door, carrying the gift bag down by his side. He was still mad at her, but he wasn’t an animal, he couldn’t give her a gift not wrapped in something. He knocked lightly on the door, awkwardly chewing on the inside of his cheek as he waited for someone to open it. “Hey,” he greeted in a whisper, immediately beginning to shake his head. “Don’t shut the door in my face. Please. I got this for you like two months ago,” he mumbled out, extending his arm to hand her the bag. “I can’t return it. And it’s a book, so I’m really uninterested in keeping it.”
