Graham smirked. âGood, I need an excuse to keep this place clean.â he said with a bow. He floated back into the kitchen and began preparing bowls and chips, even scooping out some of the spinach dip he made into little containers. He was really thankful for both Bentley and Cam. He didnât have a ton of friends in Lima anymore as most of his graduating class booked it to chase their dreams. âHis name if Doofus.â Graham said as he came out with the snacks and made his way to the couch. He plopped down on it and gestured for Cam to do the same. âYou seem like a dog person. I donât know if Iâm just picturing your dad but you have serious all-american vibes.â Graham added with little spirit fingers.Â
Cam was grateful for his friendship with Graham. Most of his friends were busy with school and life, and he didnât get to see them as much. As much as he loved FaceTiming Joey or being able to hang out with Finn during spring break, it wasnât the same as being able to see a friend every day. Although, his friendship with Graham was new and had mostly just sprung off the friendship he had with his sister, Cam was still so happy theyâd become friends. âDoofus? Itâs sweet you named him after me,â he teased with a laugh. He followed Grahamâs lead and took a seat on his couch, smirking once Doofus jumped up and joined him. Clearly, he was just as much of a fan of Cam as Cam was of him. âAll-American vibes?â He echoed, raising an eyebrow. âI think thatâs the nicest way anyoneâs ever called me boring before.â
If it werenât for this job, Bentley would probably have been stuck at his parentâs house â while not paying rent seemed like the best option, there was no way that he was going to handle another year with his mom, especially since he became the main target after Benji had been off to college. Thatâs why when Cam mentioned something about needing a roommate, Bentley was the first one to say something and the two had become friends over that â at first Bentley thought that he was just another Lima loser like everyone else, but it didnât take him long to realize that he was actually pretty cool. âI just tripped, I donât fucking know.â Bentley said honestly, not sure how he had got himself into that situation â it was pretty common for him to trip on nothing and messing up things, but not everyone was used to that yet. âSome kind of pasta, I think. That red one, whatever the fuck thatâs called.â Bentley said, clearly frustrated about that whole situation. As Cam went on about the possibility of him getting fired, he let out a small laugh as he shook his head at Cam. âPlease, they canât fire me. Who are they going to hire? Tommy Ryerson? Yeah, I donât think so. I think my job is safe for now.â Bentley said, as he crossed his arms over his chest as he waited for the other to prepare the plate that he had dropped earlier. âBut Iâll try and be more careful, I guess.â
After dropping out of school, Cam had no choice but to get a job and an apartment. His mother was not a fan of supporting her dropout son, and his dad was always down for supporting whatever she wanted. Cam understood it though. He was always his motherâs favorite. She had a lot of plans and expectations for him, none of which included working full time in the kitchen at Breadstix. But here he was, trying to convince his roommate to do a better job or risk getting fired. Maybe Breadstix wasnât that serious to him, but Cam didnât half-ass anything and he wasnât about to start now. âTry to walk slower next time, man,â Cam warned shaking his head. Hearing Bentleyâs description of what the dish was, made him immediately roll his eyes. That wasnât helpful at all. âSpaghetti? Chicken parmesan? Do you have it written down somewhere?â Cam loved cooking, so he definitely took it seriously. It didnât frustrate him that Bentley didnât take working at Breadstix all that seriously. It wasnât like this was anyoneâs dream. They were just two guys living in Lima and trying to make the best of the situation. âDude. They could easily replace you with some teenager. You know that, right?â He muttered, shaking his head. He turned his attention back to the noodles currently cooking on the stove before turning to watch one of the other cooks begin stirring alfredo sauce. âAre you closing tonight? Or are you getting out of here soon?â
graham was sitting in the living room of his apartment, Doofus the Rottweiler on his lap. when the doorbell rang, doofus sprung to action and began barking up a storm. âshut beak, doofus.â graham mumbled, getting up from his couch and throwing doofusâs toy in the opposite direction to distract him. he made his way to the front door and look through the peephole to make eye contact with the one and only cam evans. he smiled and opened the front door. âwelcome! welcome!â he said with a nod, taking the snacks and drinks out of camâs hands. he wandered off into the kitchen to put everything down. âi hope youâre ready for some mother fucking wrestlemania!â he said excitedly, before placing the snacks on his kitchen counter. when he stepped back out to face cam, doofus was all over him. âohâŚand i have a dog now.â he said with a confident nod.Â
Cam beamed once Graham swung the door open, happy to get to hang out with his friend. In Camâs eyes, Graham was like one of the coolest guys he knew. He had cool hair, an awesome bike shop, and just seemed to somewhat have his shit together. That was something Cam definitely envied. He nodded as his friend disappeared into the kitchen, and it wasnât long before a dog popped out and was jumping all over him. âI can see that,â he laughed as he bent down and immediately started giving the dog the attention that he deserved. âIf you think Iâm over here all the time now. Itâs going to be worse now that you have a pup,â he joked, completely sitting on the floor now so that the dog could take over his lap. âHow long have you had this little guy and whatâs his name?â
Getting a job at Breadstix probably wasnât the best idea for Bentley â but he needed one and that was the best thing that he probably was going to get around Lima either way. Plus, he got to work with his roommate, which was something that made it a lot of better. The problem of working as a waiter was that you actually needed to be good at what you were doing. How hard could it be to just put plates on the table? As much as Bentley tried to control his natural klutz over the years, the truth is that he hadnât made any progress when it came to it â thatâs why it didnât come as a surprise when Bentley had picked up a plate full of food, only to drop it on the floor when he tripped on nothing. As he looked down at the floor, seeing the mess he made, he let out a groan as he looked at the customer. âIâll be right back.â He said.
As he made his way inside of the kitchen, Bentley quickly looked for Cam â the other probably wasnât going to be happy that Bentley had dropped yet another plate with food, but he was hoping that he could let it slide again. âYo, Cam.â He said once he spotted him in the kitchen, making his way towards him as he rolled his eyes, thinking about what he had just done. âI dropped another fucking plate again, can you just do it again?â He asked, crossing his arms, as he looked over at his roommate, wishing that he would just say yes so the two could move on from that.
Working at Breadstix wasnât Camâs dream job. He was pretty sure that working at Breadstix wasnât anyoneâs dream job. But he didnât hate it. He was cooking and finally, he was able to brag that he had the recipe for their infamous breadsticks. And he got to work with Bentley. Working with Bentley was kind of stressful in some instances because, well, Bentley was kind of a mess. As old as it made Cam feel, Bentley reminded him of a less mature version of himself. The type of little spaz he could have turned out to be. Cam looked up as Bentley entered the kitchen, immediately shaking his head at the other guyâs words. âHow did that happen?â He questioned with a deep sigh. He leaned down and pulled a round of breadsticks out of the oven, placing them on the counter. âDo you remember what the order was?â He knew there was a huge chance that Bentley didnât remember. He wasnât exactly great at his job. As much as Cam liked having his roommate around, Bentley wasnât his favorite coworker. âYou have to be more careful, man. If you keep dropping plates, theyâre gonna end up firing you,â he warned with a shrug. Sure, Breadstix wasnât really known for upholding a great work ethic, but still, he didnât want his friend unable to pay his half of their rent.

LIFE UPDATES
Senior year started off weird for Cam, but after getting dumped and spending more time with his friends, he ended the year ready to go off to college. The moment he arrived in Savannah, Georgia, he felt slightly out of place. But he was ready to give it a chance. And he did. It wasnât long before he realized that his love of video games did not immediately translate into wanting to design games for the rest of his life. After coming home for winter break, he admitted the devastating news to his best friend, Joey first. He couldnât do this. He couldnât go back to school. After the initial silent treatment and repeatedly asking the Lord âwhat she did to deserve this,â his mother eventually forgave him too. But she wasnât going to let her drop out son move back into his old bedroom. That was now her home office anyway.
So, Cam got a job and found an apartment. It took a few months, but he finally settled into everything. It hasnât been the best experience for him. It wasnât how he thought heâd end up. Itâs hard for him to hear about his friends joining frats and having fun in college. He always pictured that life for himself, but it just wasnât the right fit. He started taking culinary classes and is actually finding his footing.Â
sterling was someone who always kept a small, selective tight circle. there was no denying that rocky was undoubtedly the most important person in her life, apart from her family, and then there was noah, whoâd somehow managed to break down enough of sterlingâs walls over the years that theyâd formed a genuine, lasting friendship. besides that? sterling had a bunch of acquaintances that she kept at armâs length, as if to always give herself an easy out when things got tough. so when things got tough with cam, the newest person to enter her life? sterling did what sterling did best: cut off all communication. and she likely would have continued the game of radio silence had it not been for camâs ridiculous request. whether it was the desire to hear cam eat a mouthful of iâm sorryâs or the longing from missing having someone to clown with each joke, sterling showed up to the nall salon with a half-open mind. âi donât know if we were ever friends,â sterling shot back as she settled into the chair next to him. âi showed up for the free massage,â she pointed towards the water. âand to hear you apologize. you were a dick at candyland. what the hell was all of that about?âÂ
Cam always felt bad whenever he fought with a friend. It was always a regrettable situation, but he felt even worse fighting with Sterling. He didnât know her that well. It wasnât like with Frankie, or Joey, or even Theo, there was really no guarantee that Sterling would forgive him and still want to hang out. Thankfully, sheâd showed up. But sheâd showed up and immediately started giving him shit. Deservedly so. âWe were definitely friends,â he responded with a nod of his head. âWe were on the cusp of watching another Star Wars movie together. That solidifies a friendship with me.â There was a small smirk on his face, even though, he did still feel really bad. It was easy to fall back into some sort of rhythm with her or at least to want to. She was funny and disarming in her own charming way. âIâm sorry,â he admitted as he glanced over at her, lifting his arms into a surrender pose, before confessing, âI was a dick.â He let out a sigh as he lowered his arms and averted his gaze down toward his feet, taking a second to relax. âI was mad at myself. After talking to Joey about stuff with Dylan, and I took it out on you,â he breathed out, shaking his head. âIt wonât happen again.â He was beginning to notice that serious conversations werenât her forte, so he wasnât actually expecting an admission of her missing him. âI want to be your friend again, okay? Please. Start making fun of me again. I missed it.â
âThatâs true, Iâm confident weâll win too⌠Iâve been practicing my tumbling a lot, so I think Iâm better than ever.â Joey said with a small nod, knowing that the Cheerios had always been great when it comes to competitions, especially since they had made it to Nationals easily and they were sure that everything would turn out fine. As Cam said that he could keep the guitar pick, he smiled down at it as he shoved it back into his pocket, hoping that he wouldnât forget that it was there once he got home. âWow, so you already played your last game as a Titan? How does that feel?â He asked, as he thought about graduation was rapidly approaching them. At Camâs question about college, Joey nodded his head, which was probably surprising mostly because the people probably didnât expect him to think about this. âOh yeah⌠Well, you remember how I talked about NYADA? And thereâs that musical theater program and everything⌠Turns out they having this dancing program, Julien told me about it and I looked it up and it seemed pretty cool. So, thatâs my plan for now.â Joey said, not sure if anything would change during his senior year that would make him change his mind, but hopefully everything would go well and he would end up in NYADA with Julien and Ivy. It was a good plan after all. As he got up from his chair and sat down next to Cam in the bed, he looked over at the guitar as the other played and talked about the whole situation with Dylan â he was just glad that the whole thing seemed sorted out. âThatâs good, right? Do you think she will be mad at me?â He asked, hoping that wouldnât have ruined their friendship. âOf course. Youâre my best friend and I want the best for you. I just felt like I should tell you, right? Am I a bad person for doing this?â He asked, questioning if he had been better off to stay quiet.
Cam watched as Joey stuffed the guitar pick into his pockets and let out a soft chuckle. âTry not to lose it again, bud,â he added, before shaking his head. Although, this was Joey he was talking to, so he was certain that his friend would misplace it a few more times. But he liked that it brought Joey some sense of comfort, even if it was actually fake and not good luck at all. Cam wasnât going to acknowledge that part of it. âYeah, man. Iâm done with organized sports. I think my school has a golf team and thatâs about it,â he shrugged, letting out a breathy chuckle. The idea of him playing golf was pretty laughable, but he was sure being holed up playing video games for the next four years wasnât going to be very fun. So, he was going to have to find some other interest. âThatâs a really good plan for you, dude. Seriously. I could visit you and Frankie at the same time,â he beamed, nodding his head. His two best friends being in the same city did seem like it would make things easier on him. Plus, he just wanted Joey to believe in himself. Sure, he struggled with school, but that didnât mean there wasnât a future in college waiting for him, and NYADA seemed like a great place for him. âShe wonât be mad at you. I didnât mention you,â he explained, shaking his head. He played a few more chords before looking over at his best friend and shaking his head. Joey was a good guy, so Cam didnât want him to feel bad about offering up advice. âYouâre the greatest guy I know,â he stated simply. âYou suck at guitar,â he teased as he laughed lightly. âBut donât worry. Iâm serious. Youâre a good guy.â He stopped playing, and turned to look over at Joey with a small smile. âAre you staying for dinner or what?â
Dylan managed to muster up a smile as Cam told her, again, that he hadnât sent her a vocal valentine. âSo weird,â she said with a bit of a forced chuckle, âI have likeâŚno idea who it couldâve been.â That part was true. There were no other guys pursuing Dylan at the moment and as far as she knew, none were even interested. It was all a big mystery. Happy to change the topic, Dylan cleared her throat and nodded at his comment. âYeah, I had likeâŚthe best time,â she told him, now with a more genuine smile, grateful that it seemed like he also had a good time. In her experience, when she showed too much emotion, most guys shied away and tried to nip it in the bud. This was precisely why Dylan was taken aback by Camâs question. Was everything okay? She turned her head to look at him and felt her breath momentarily hitch in her throat as she straightened out her position to mirror his. âYeah, everythingâs okay,â she lied halfheartedly, forcing another smile as she contemplated her options. She could act like nothing was wrong and make herself crazyâŚor she could be honest. If thereâs something you need to say. Iâm all ears. Dylan locked eyes with Cam in that moment and stared for a moment. After taking a deep breath and ignoring the way her heart thumped wildly in her chest, she shrugged. âActually,â she started, voice small, âI guess Iâm just kind ofâŚwondering what weâre doing. Wondering likeâŚwhat you want. With us.â Her thoughts came out jagged, but her feelings were clear. âI like you,â she told him honestly, âsoâŚyeah. I donât know.â A pause, and then another, âI donât know.âÂ
If there was some sort of problem, Cam always wanted to get to the root of it. Both of his parents were firm believers in not ignoring the problem at hand. His dad liked to talk about emotions all the time and his mom didnât want to leave anything unsaid. And heâd picked up on that from the both of them. So, the minute it became obvious to him that something was bothering Dylan, he knew he was going to urge her to bring it to light. That was just the type of guy that he was. Plus, after his talk with Joey and the lingering confusion about their relationship hanging over the two of them, it only made sense that they actually talk. He nodded his head as she spoke, knowing full well where she was going with all of this. He sighed as he ran his hands down his jeans, trying to shake the cold feeling of anxiousness that suddenly washed over him. This was awkward. And he could feel himself struggling to find the perfect way to respond. âI like you, too,â he offered up in response with a small sigh. That was the truth. For Cam, there was always some number of feelings involved in sex, even if he wasnât interested in being her boyfriend. He did like Dylan. That wasnât a lie. âI like spending time with you. Youâre amazing. Youâre beautiful, fun, and incredibly sweet. Youâre a great girl,â he mumbled out before taking in a deep breath. âBut,â he paused, nervously shaking his head, before stammering out, âin a few months Iâm going to be almost 800 miles away. I donât think starting up something serious would be fair to either of us.â
As Joey looked down at the guitar pick that Cam had given him years ago, he couldnât help but to be relieved that he had found it â he had ignored Cam had least for a week after he lost it, until he finally realized that Cam had a lot of guitar picks. âI know! Iâm just glad that I found it before Nationals⌠Now Zoe canât blame me if we lose, because we have the lucky guitar pick now!â He said with a smile as he looked over at Cam. âUnless you want it back, maybe you need it more than I do.â He said, before he was handing the guitar pick over to Cam, not knowing if the other would want Joey to keep it â he was hoping that Cam would let him keep it, since it had worked so far, but he understood if Cam didnât want Joey to lose it again. As Joey played randomly in the guitar, he didnât complain when Cam reached for the guitar and took it from him â it was probably for the best, since Joey would probably end up dropping it and breaking it, so as he looked at Cam as he played, he couldnât help but to smile. âMy day was fine⌠I got a C- in my algebra test! Mostly because the teacher said she was proud of me for not writing in crayon, even if some things didnât make sense⌠But at least it was good enough.â He said with a shrug, as he leaned back on the chair he was sitting on, thankful to be getting some rest after the practice he just had â with Nationals coming up, Coach Tanaka and Zoe had been even more strict during practice. âIâm just tired. But I told my dads I was having dinner here. So⌠Have you talked to Dylan?â Joey asked, wondering about that whole situation, especially since he hadnât talked to Cam ever since Valentineâs Day â he did feel bad for Dylan, but Joey couldnât help but to wonder how things were going.
âZoe wonât blame you. Because you guys wonât lose,â Cam insisted with a shrug of his shoulders. Cam didnât actually know what went into winning a cheerleading competition, but objectively, he could probably guess that the titans were the best. He always loved watching the Cheerios rock it out at games and pep rallies. âNah, man. Sports are over for me. You keep it, dude,â he replied with a nod of his head. Heâd remembered how much Joey actually believed that it was magical or could bring him good luck, and figured he would let his friend hold onto it. Plus, itâd been missing for years, so Cam had already replaced it with dozens of other picks since. âA C? Thatâs awesome, dude. Iâm glad youâre getting your grades up. You been thinking about college at all?â He asked, raising an eyebrow. He knew Joey wasnât great at school, and struggled to even complete the simplest tasks in a legible pencil, but he was happy to see that his friend was making school somewhat of a priority these days. âCome sit here,â Cam motioned, toward the bed for Joey to join him. âIâll teach you a couple of notes.â He strummed away aimlessly on his guitar as he sighed at the mention of Dylan. Cam liked being the good guy. The type of guy that people admired and never did anything wrong, but he wasnât proud of himself and how things were going with Dylan. âWeâve talked a bit. I think I did a good job of explaining my side of things,â he shrugged. âThanks for the chat on Valentineâs, by the way. It was helpful.â
âarenât you supposed to be a football player? donât ow! catch better!â bri stifled her laughter as she watched him set the rubix cube on the coffee table, âwe should make your dad try it after dinner, even if he canât get it, i bet heâd make it fun.â she commented casually, sheâd rather do that than play trivial pursuit, but brianna didnât see any reason to complain. trivial pursuit quickly left her mind though as she defended, âiâm not in troubleâŚiâm never in trouble.â she said, âi just thought maybe youâd have something to say about chad and i at candyland.â a sheepish admission, but bri wouldnât lie. âglad to hear you donât though.â a genuine smile slipped onto her face, âyour support means everything.â the sweet remark was quickly swept under the rug by a question of her own, âlike i said, i donât get into troubleâŚyou on the otherhandâŚâ she teased lightly, a true sign she was a bit more comfortable in her typically meek skin. âhow are you? howâs dylan? sports? schoolwork? being a senior oughta be much more interesting.â
Cam frowned at Briâs words before shaking his head. âI guess, technically, Iâm not a football player anymore,â he shrugged. It was weird to think about, but football season was long over and there was no chance he would ever play on a team again. Maybe it was more bittersweet than weird. He nodded, trying hard not to laugh at the image of his dad failing at a rubix cube. He agreed with her, it was definitely going to be hilarious. âDo you want me to give you a hard time about it?â He asked, raising an eyebrow. Bri and Jaz... And their relationship drama never failed to make him shake his head. It wasnât like he was a perfect example either, but still, they had a lot going on. âAre you two back together or what?â Steering clear of his cousinâs relationship drama would have been easier if Cam just wasnât so damn nosy. âDylan and I arenât dating,â he mumbled out as he sat up, trying to avoid the wrath of his mother complaining about his lying around on her couch. âI feel like everyone thinks that we are and weâre not officially anything.â He let out a deep sigh, before shaking his head and turning his attention back to his cousin. âBeing a senior is awesome. Some parts of it are weird. Iâm ready to graduate and start over somewhere new, but Iâm going to miss so many people.â
