𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄: WMHS bleachers.
Cam had taken this walk so many times. For the exact same reason. The trek behind the bleachers was almost always for one reason for him. He was looking for Eli. It definitely felt different now, especially since he had been actively avoiding having anything to do with her for the past few months. But they were friends now, right? Well. They weren’t friends, but they weren’t mortal enemies. And she meant something to him. Right now, she was still the first person he wanted to share news with. Whether it was good or bad, that didn’t matter. He was just used to bringing his news to her. And today, he had news.
He held the unopened envelope in his hand as he tried not to focus on the contents. It was an acceptance. Or well, a rejection letter. And the only person he could really think of to open it with was the person he’d always pictured opening that sort of thing with. If he opened it with Frankie and it was a rejection, she would have suggested they go on some sort of a drinking binge, and he was certain that Jazmine and Joey would have been happy to see him get rejected from a school so far away. Neither one of them wanted him to leave. So, Eli was going to be that person for him. Well, if she still wanted to be.
He peeked around every section of bleachers he passed until he finally spotted his target, letting out a nervous sigh as he decided to approach her. “Hey,” he greeted softly as he exhaled deeply. It already felt a lot less awkward than he thought it was going to be. “Don’t worry. I’m still not a smoker. I was actually just down here looking for you,” he admitted with a small smile. Clearly, hanging out under the bleachers was never his thing and would likely never be. He shuttered slightly as the wind blew, almost instinctively reaching up to start taking off his jacket to hand it to her, but he caught himself. It was a stupid habit. “I got a letter,” he explained, attempting to shake his nerves. “From the Savannah college of art and design. And I don’t know if I’m in or if I’m out. It’s a big envelope, so I’m thinking I might be in. But you’re the only person I can think of to open this with,” he sighed out as he glanced down at the envelope. “I also don’t know if I want to open it underneath the school bleachers.”
