British Rail timetable covers, 1977-1980, all featuring the Class 43 locomotive that led the then-new Intercity 125 trains, from Tranport Past Times (1979; 1978; 1977).

The Class 43's iconic design was led by Kenneth Grange, who passed away this week.

London North Eastern Railway in Transition

LNER passenger train services through Finsbury Park station in London.

London North Eastern Railway is the major log distance operator on the British East Coast line between London & Edinburgh.

The new Hitachi "Azuma" EMU's were just starting to take over from the Intercity 125 HST diesel and Intercity 225 electric services.

For a time in 1997, HST power car No. 43028 received this variation of Intercity Swallow livery, featuring a red cab. I'm not sure what the thinking behind the livery was, but it didn't seem to last long. At the time, the power car was one of a number allocated to Longsight depot for working Euston-Holyhead services, and is seen here working one such service on the North Wales Coast at Ffynnongroew.
